Anyone else disappointed in the restaurant quality of shrimp poboys in BR?

Brewbachers
Georges
Mike Anderson’s
PoBoy Express
Etc…

All are heavy on the bread and light on the shrimp - every single one of them. At least Lafayette has Old Tyme Grocery.

Is an awesome shrimp poboy a unicorn in BR? I’ll hang up and listen.

I wouldn't expect any of the ones mentioned to have a good shrimp poboy

Maybe poboy express?

Agreed.

Have you tried Acme, Roux 61 or Parrains? I've always thought they had good ones.

In my opinion Dempseys is pretty solid. So is Heads and Tails, Jasemines on the Bayou & Jeds.

Ketchup coming standard on seafood poboys is definitely not NOLA-esq.

If the restaurant doesn't serve New Orleans poor boy bread, you really don't have a New Orleans poor boy! It's all about the tearing of the bread with your teeth!

Maxwells and Roberto’s are my two favorite shrimp Po-boys in BR.

PoBoy Express

I like the Fried Shrimp Poboy at Poboy Express. Always plenty of shrimp. It makes me wonder if it's the china shrimp. But, frankly, I don't care if it is.

In the past the bread has been on the thinner side. Or at least they press it on the grill. As of late, they don't seem to press it at all or very long...resulting in pissing me off.

I do like the shredded lettuce and I can tolerate the very thin tomatoe slices.

I just want to say
to any poboy selling place that uses four of five shrimps on a sandwich. Most have the fricking nerve of selling that shite for $10 plus. I can buy a loaf of bread, a head of lettuce and pound of shrimp and shove it up your arse for less.

As I was reading about the heavy bread I was thinking about old tyme/BJs in Broussard. I have never been to another place that hollows out the bead like that.

Jed’s was disappointing as well. Off the Hook has a solid one, as does The Chimes and Walk-On’s of all places. I have yet to find one that’s truly fantastic, though. The next one I try will probably be Wings n Sides.
