Last minute trip to New York; leave Sunday.
I was able to get a reservation at Peter Luger's for Wednesday night. Need good lunch and evening drink options? Pizza and an Italian joint would be nice, too.
Staying just off of Times Square.

Go to Totto or Ippudo and eat ramen. Both are in Hell’s Kitchen.
Co for pizza in Chelsea.

One of my favorite pizza spots is NY Pizza Suprema near MSG / Penn Station. Don't get there much anymore when I'm home, but it's terrific.

Lilia in Williamsburg is my favorite.

Walk down 5th Avenue to the Flatiron bldg. 5th Avenue @ 23rd Street is Eataly. It's Mario Batali and Lidia Bastianich's food court. They have chacuterie, bread, cheese and wine, pasta, fish, steaks, pizza, desserts, espresso and coffee. Great for lunch and taking in the fun. Eataly

It isn't the old school stereotype Italian, which you might be looking for, but Scarpetta (Scott Conant's place).
Known for their spaghetti.

Not Italian, but I like sitting at the bar for lunch at Gramercy Tavern.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll report back.

Johns pizza in Time Square is really good. Rahi in Greenwich Village has killed Indian food.

Lillie's for drinks in your area.
Balthazar for brunch is great, especially if you are in NYC with your wife.

Carbone is my favorite Italian spot in the city but it will be very difficult to get a res this late in the game. Maybe try calling them to see if anything opens up.

I have to agree. To each their own, but I just don’t get going to a steakhouse when you’re traveling - especially in New York. You can get a good steak almost anywhere.
I’d much rather go to a place like Le Coucou or Per Se, but again, to each their own.

I’m all for getting a prime steak whenever I travel, but I find peter Lugers to be highly overrated.
I do agree that there isn’t much variance in a great steak from restaurant to restaurant or city to city.

Vice Versa
Etcetera Etcetera
Beecher’s New York – We randomly walked in this place looking for a bar to get a drink and we ended up getting an appetizer and mac & cheese while we had a drink. It was a really cool place and the food was excellent.
Bocca di Bacco
Vanessa’s Dumplings
Serenata – AWESOME mexican food in Chelsea. Really, really good, casual, relatively inexpensive.
Haven Rooftop Bar
Spyglass Rooftop Bar
Dive Bar – Cheap and casual.

This. I won’t knock anyone for wanting a good steakhouse experience on vacation, but I don’t get the Luger’s love.
The OP is within walking distance of other steakhouses that are just as good, but he’s going to travel out to Brooklyn because of the Luger aura. Don’t get me wrong, he’ll have a great meal, and good for them for having the hype, I just don’t get it.
