My family and I are driving down to Gulf Shores next weekend from Kansas and we’re going to stop in New Orleans for a couple of days. We’re planning on visiting La Petite Grocery, because everyone recommends that. What are some other places that we should visit to maximize our food experience in NOLA?

Peche
Brigsten's

Hard to recommend when we don't know much about the type of food you're looking for, price if that matters, dress if that matters, location if that matters....

Makes sense…

We’re not looking for a black tie restaurant. We’re not picky. I’m really looking forward to fresh seafood. because… Kansas.

Consider Cochon or Cochon Butcher. They are brother/sister restaurants, with Cochon being more of a sit down place whereas Butcher is set up for Deli style

Peche would also be lovely

Make reservations early wherever you decide to go.

I like LPG, but it wouldn't be at the top of my list for a first time visit.

Peche will fit that nicely either for lunch or dinner. I usually go for lunch.

Brigtsen's is also great. Only open at night and closed on Sundays and Mondays. Chef Frank is a Paul Prudhomme protege with his own spin.
This dish will give you more seafood than you can eat or at least, I can't eat it all. He does change it up a little with what's fresh at the time, so the items may vary, but it's terrific.

Brigtsen’s Seafood Platter (The Shell Beach Diet)

- Grilled Redfish with shrimp & jalapeño lime sauce - Shrimp cornbread with smoked corn butter - Baked oyster LeRuth with shrimp & crabmeat - Brigtsen's baked oyster with bacon, creamed spinach, & Romano - Stuffed Cucuzza w/ Shrimp - Jalapeno Shrimp cole slaw

Mr. B's for BBQ shrimp and gumbo.

If you want to experience one old school New Orleans restaurant, go to Galatoire's. The food is great and it's a festive experience. Oysters Rockefeller, Crabmeat Maison, whatever the fish meuniere or amandine, crabmeat au gratin, souffle potatoes to start....

Have fun and report back on wherever it is you end up eating!

Currently Marjie’s and Costera are my two favorite places in the city. Seafood Sally’s is the new place from the Marjie’s couple and it would be a solid spot to check out for someone from out of state. Can get boiled seafood toasted in their chili butter, it’s awesome.

LPG. will be great.

Peche would be a fine choice. Costera would be, too.

Herbsaint is excellent. Mr. B’s is fun.

Being from the Midwest, I’d go somewhere like Peche to try gulf seafood. Seaworthy would be another and one I prefer.

I was just down there a couple of weeks ago for three days. We ate (and drank) around the Warehouse District, CBD, and Mid City.

Everywhere we ate:
Espiritu Mescalaria y Cocina - Mexican, really fricking good mexican.

Herbsaint - gumbo, fried oysters, bunch of food and booze

Cochon - oven roasted oysters, crawfish pie, fried oysters, boudin balls, redfish half shell

Pêche - raw oysters (isle dauphine) & small plates: catfish, tuna, crawfish pasta, too much alcohol...

Sofia - don't remember pasta?

Arnaud's - gumbo, shrimp arnaud's, French 75s

Luke - oysters and other food. Booze

Tommy G's Coal Fired Pizza - open late, good pie!

Auction House Market - food hall: roasted oysters & beer

Carmo - don't remember, a salad maybe?

Three Legged Dog - daily crawfish boil @6pm

The Howlin Wolf - open late takeout sandwiches

La Petite isn’t black tie, but it’s a nice little buttoned up French bistro. Something with a collar & pants

Based on what you’re looking for:

Peche
Seafood Sally’s
Bevi
Clesi’s
Cochon
Parkway Poboys

LPG is great. Get the crab beignets.

Get a Parkway poboy at some point. I dont remember what day is Oysters. If they have them, get the Oyster poboy. Man that thing is good.

Cochon Butcher is good but not seafood.

Maybe Peche if you wanna swing the tab there.

Edit: Second and third Mr B's and Seaworthy. Dragos chagrilled for a snack one day.

Here's a picture someone posted last night on Brigtsen's FB page of the current seafood platter.
