If you had a weekend in New Orleans and you wanted to eat some great food on a budget, where would you go?

Give us a budget..... that varies quite a bit from person to person.

Everyone's definition of budget is different.. but the happy hours at Besh restaurants are a pretty great value, particularly Domenica and Borgne.

Milk Bar has outstanding sandwiches, as does Cochon Butcher (supposedly, never been to Butcher). Because they're sandwiches, they're not the price you'd pay for some swanky meal.

Because you put it this way, I assume you're not asking what are the cheapest possible places.. but more what is inexpensive yet top tier.

Peche would fall in that category. Jones and I spent $54 (food only) the first time we went, and didn't finish it all. I could easily order 2 small plates from there and it be plenty, depending what two I get.

Plenty of happy hour deals around to help cushion the expenses....like the half price pizzas at Pizza Domenica and (regular) Domenica during the afternoons, or the $7 small plates at Kingfish.

Dine out at lunch for the best deals. Hard to beat the Friday prix fixe at Restaurant August for $20.14 (three courses).

True. I had 1 meal yesterday as well. Easy to afford better places when you only eat a real meal once per day.

Mona Lisa on Royal Street for pizza and Italian
Johnny's Po-Boys on St. Louis
Central Grocery for a muffaletta
Port of Call on Esplanade for a burger and baked potato
Cafe Maspero's for poboy's
Verti Marte on Royal and Gov Nichols for takeout sandwiches and grub.
Napoleon House on Chartres and St Louis
Camellia Grill on Carrollton or the French Quarter location on Chartres
Clover Grill on Dumaine and Bourbon is a greasy spoon for burgers, omelets and fries.

I've also seen that Cafe Sbisa reopened on Decatur.. Does anyone have a review?

You can go to a lot of "fine dining" restaurants for lunch, instead of dinner and save a few bucks.

not sure... I mentioned that I paid for a table of 4 before the game in the dome. We had apps and 3 entrees (all taco dishes) and one pitcher of top shelf margarita. The pitcher alone was 50 dollars
