Need some help with ribs

At the in-laws this week and everyone wants some ribs. Got a pretty big problem, I only have a gas grill or an oven. There's only 8 of us, so I think two slabs will work, plenty of room on the grill or the oven.
I've attempted ribs on gas grill before with a foil packet that contained soaked wood chips to get some smokiness in there with mixed results. I've also done ribs in the oven before with disastrous results.
Is there any way I can make a rib worth a damn given these limitations, and if so, how? Thank for any suggestions, they are much appreciated!

just throw them on, no wrap, at 250 for 5-6 hours, bend test.

Search for Alton Brown's oven rib method. I remember it's in double heavy foil sheets, with some wine and other liquids for steaming, liquid is poured out at some point and glaze is applied with caramelization under the oven broiler. Been about 10 years ago, but remember it made a decent set of ribs.

Your best best is to get 2 slabs of ribs from your favorite BBQ joint.
No matter what you do, without smoke or wood fire you will get a sub par result. Don’t care what Alton Brown says.

my dad used to prebake them in oven, then finish them on the grill.
dont know what he did but they were always super juicy and tender and the bones just fell out with ease
i always regretted not learning his method when i had the chance but he said the secret was to prebake

I made these a lot back in the day and they are awesome. I’ve been on a smoking kick lately but I think I’ll do these again soon.
If you’re doing baby backs might want to do 3 racks. Leftover ribs are heaven.
You can use a hood smokey rub and put them on the grill low and slow if you don’t want “wet” ribs. Nobody will complain. Serve with a bacon and bleu cheese coleslaw.

Wish there was one out here, I'm in Oregon and I've yet to find a rib worth a damn out here.

Season with rub. Cook through in oven at 250-300. Brush on some sauce and finish on the propane grill. They come out good.

Season ribs and grill on med high heat for an hour or so until the meat starts to pull back from the bones. Sauce and wrap cook until tender but not falling apart.

What brand/model gas grill ? I use a propane smoker and make amazing ribs. I use a pan of water (steam) to keep the ribs moist, and wood chips, chunks to add smoke flavor. After 3 hours, I wrap in heavy duty aluminum foil and finish in the oven at 225* until the meat falls off the bone. Ribs ain’t hard to cook, just gotta cook them slow and low

I've done it this way several times when I didn't want to deal with the smoker. I removed the membrane from the inside of the racks, seasoned them and laid them on edge in a rack made for ribs.
Then I placed them in a large roasting pan with some liquid under a grate, put the lid on the roaster and popped them in the oven for a 2.5 to 3 hours at 275 degrees.
I'd then finish them off on the grill over high heat to put some grill marks on them and slather on some BBQ sauce as they finished cooking. Bones fall out and very tender to eat.
No, it's not the same as smoked, but it works well.

It is nothing fancy, Char Broil brand, typical looking gas grill, two racks, not very wide.

Will give this a try I think. Do you look at internal temp of 195 or so before pulling out of the oven, then unwrap and let rest for 30?
I've put chips in a foil packet and put them on the metal thing above the burner before to get some smoke in there, but never was able to get the bark I wanted. Didn't try putting them in the oven after taking them off the grill though...

This sounds like the excuse you need to go buy your first smoker!!!

This site amazes me sometimes. Dude asks advice on how to cook ribs on the food board, and of course there's one douchebag who downvotes him
