Went to the grocery store to buy ingredients for dinner. I needed three yellow onions. The grocery store had about 8 onions available, all in horrid shape and should have been tossed.

I noticed a stack of bagged onions so I ripped open a bag, took 3 onions, and continued on my way. I didn’t need a bag of onions, so I took what I needed because the store failed to provide suitable produce for me to purchase.

How trashy was this move?

Anyone else do this? I can’t be the only one here.

Thoroughly.

Are we talking about a 3# sack of onions for $1.99?? If so, your trashiness just went up by a factor of 5.

Did you dump the remaining onions in the open bag into the single onion bin?

I'm not sure if that hurts or helps the trashy argument, but it seems like the right thing to do.

Nah. It was a big bag. Was like $6, which isn’t much but I didn’t need like 20 onions.

I thoroughly considered it.

But I had to flee the scene quickly.

If it was the same exact product, just unbagged, then I don't see a problem with it. I assume grocery stores throw away quite a bit of unpurchased produce. They just want you to spend some $, which you did.

Meh. I bought the onions I wanted. Maybe the store should have some pride in the produce they put out? It’s a damn Monday and they have like 8 yellow onions that were rotting or damaged for the public to buy?

Never done this but a poorly maintained produce section will piss me right off.

For milk, bread and any produce that is dated I always reach to the back and take the freshest stuff. I'm entitled that way.

I feel like had I asked the people working in the produce section, they would have probably let me.

The onions they had for sale were in horrid shape. Like shockingly bad. And this is a popular restaurant chain.

A popular New Orleans chain that purchased all the stores from another popular chain in Baton Rouge.

I do the same. Nothing wrong with that.

There can only be a certain percentage of us. We need most people to take the stuff towards the front.

How is this trashy in the least? You were buying the exact same product on offer, and you were probably paying more for it per pound than the bundled price of the bagged onions. (Loose are generally more expensive than bagged.) The remaining onions are easily sold.

Wait, you did actually PAY for the ones you pulled from the bag?

I'm forever opening up produce packages and rearranging things. I don't want three moldy strawberries in my pint--you better believe I'm gonna open up another one and swap for non-spoiled berries. I do not try to overload, and I will indeed weigh to make sure I'm not being greedy.

Being a (kind of) old lady is fun. Get a few silver hairs and you can get away with all kinds of sh*t.

Yes that's right. Nobody in my family wants to go shopping with me because I'm so picky and take my time.

Crap move. You ALWAYS buy more onions than you need that day...never run out of onions.
