Thread hijack alert but full on confession: I'm more than just picky at the grocery store I'm full on OCD. If there are 20 packaged ribeyes out I will inspect all 20 before selecting one. Sometimes I'll put one in the cart and start to walk away then go put it back and start over. I'm picky about meat behind the counter too. Last year a butcher got frustrated with me because he wasn't grabbing the exact steak I wanted. I didn't care because deep down I know it's very important to get the right steak. I hate shopping with other people more than they hate shopping with me because they try to rush me.

No, that all sounds perfectly normal to me. Picking out ingredients is the foundation of cooking. I always prefer to select stuff individually. American supermarkets are terrible about packaging stuff together—-I’m not buying 5 lbs of potatoes and 1/2 are sprouting. No thanks. Etc.

I’d never be able to go with you. I don’t grab crappy produce/meat, but the decision is a 5 second deal for me. Can’t stand when I need something and someone is blocking for an eternity. For others’ sake, I hope you’re one of those 8AM shoppers.

Nah I go around 6 every night. I try to be considerate though. If someone else walks up I'll walk away and go look at the pork, chicken, seafood, whatever. Then when they leave I go back and continue the process.
