I’m hosting a dinner party and need a good dessert. It’ll be casual but I still want something to impress

All I can think of is pineapple upside down cake because it’s my favorite

I tried Pinterest but it’s just a bunch of bars and cookies

Peach cobbler is a good one and easy to make. Matter of fact, I just took one out of my oven about 15 minutes ago.

Here's the recipe:

4 cups fresh peaches sliced and skinned
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup real butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 cup icewater

Preheat the oven to 350
Grease a 9 x 13 baking pan---I use a little bit of butter but not what the recipe calls for. Line the pan with peaches.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar, the flour, baking powder, salt, melted butter, vanilla and milk and stir until smooth. Pour this over the peaches as evenly as possible. If it is too thick to flow, add just a bit more milk.

Combine 1 cup sugar and the 1/4 cup water and pour this over the batter.

Bake for 1 hour at 350. Remove and allow to cool so the juices will set a bit before cutting into it.

I live in South Texas so it's fairly common here

That being said, I'd second your idea. It's a good dish for groups and it's tough not to enjoy.

Yea absolutely more common in Texas than the other places i've lived in life, but it's one of my favorite desserts and not something people have all the time like chocolate cake etc

Great ideas here. I’m thinking about making peanut butter pie. I have a really good recipe I haven’t made in twenty years

Banana pudding, homemade. Or like one of the above posters, Creme Brulee impresses and isn't terrible difficult. Plus there's fire involved, so that's a win.

What’s on the dinner menu?
Tiramisu is always a crowd pleaser.
If your menu is very heavy/filling, you might consider something light and simple. I like a fruit sorbet in small scoops drizzled with a complimentary liqueur. Like raspberry sorbet w chocolate liqueur, or vanilla gelato with lemoncello.
