I have a hard time believing this broad is responsible for the day to day operations of Antoine's.
I misread, her dad was grooming her to take over, her dad still runs it.

I didn't do any better when I took my daughter to her first "nice" restaurant. Had a groupon or something for Andreas. I'm just happy she enjoyed putting on a dress and going out to eat.
I've got a Groupon for four there, never been. Taking my friend and his fiancee to celebrate his birthday in a couple of weeks. I have never heard a good thing about Andrea's either.
I always thought it funny, how everyone sees NOLA as French, but we have 10x more Italian places than French places.
(I'm a huge fan of Groupon)

kids menus, crayons,
to be fair there wasn't an actual kids menu and the coloring pages were freshly printed from a computer. They did have crayons. And yes I contributed to that chain atmosphere with that. But I made sure we dressed up. I did thankfully leave my dinner jacket in the car, it was hot enough with long sleeves. I thought there would be some dress code. But they just want any and all to come there.
We did Brunch at Commander's Sunday and while the kids were attended to just as well if not better, everyone was more dressed and it felt more elegant.

Some places do it. But honestly, that's like the rest of us having to wait to get paid. They shouldn't be complaining about it or pressuring customers to tip with cash.
I'm surprised. My friends who work in fine dining always PREFER CC tips so that they have a bigger paycheck when they get paid.
Getting cash tips makes it tempting to spend on stupid shite and not as easy to save .. IMO.

We always got tipped out at the end of the night for CC tips. Tip outs to bar, hostess, and whatnot came out of your CC tip payout and was based on your total sales, not your total tips.
Ol' boy here sounds like a grade-A chump waiter. No way he should ever bring up how I tip him.

I didn't think it was that big of deal, until the responses here. I guess it was funny. I rarely carry cash on me, and after he said that, I started digging for my hidden 20 I keep in my wallet.

I’m afraid I’m going to show my ignorance by asking this, but what is the green thing on top of the bread pudding? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it served that way. Thanks for the review and pictures.

Well yeah, me too, but I work in a mom and pop casual joint.
Many upscale places put CC tips on your paycheck instead.

Commander's flat out won't let you in if you are dressed inappropriately. Antoine's is a different story, during the day at least, although this may be by virtue of its location in the quarter and proximity to tourist foot traffic.

Mint leaves.

I'm just so happy to hear that some of y'all are making it a point to bring your kids to nicer restaurants. Fine dining is struggling to compete with the more casual restaurant genre and it hurts my heart. I have such a different feeling leaving a fine dining restaurant compared to others. The atmosphere and ambience is different. Diners act different. There is just something about putting on a nice dress (men, button up shirts, ties, coats) and going out for a nice meal. While both have great food, it is such a different experience when dining at August vs say, Cochon. I think I prefer August. It is just so much more pleasant. I would actually give the food edge to Cochon based on my most previous trips to each. I'm sure I'm the minority but I'm not afraid to admit it.
The end.
The end.

No problem. Grandfather, aunt, mom and sister are in the Proteus room. They don't show paiges though? WTF?

he did a good job. He also practically begged me not to tip with a credit card.
Which I don't mind after he told me they wait two weeks for their tips from CCs.
I can't believe he said that. Not cool, IMO.
I wasn't impressed with their plating either, but I think it's become more of a older people place and they don't care so much about new or innovative plating.

If a waiter tells me he or she prefers cash, I would probably reply that I prefer miles.
I see no issue with crayons. When I was a child, we went to Downtown Don's in Lafayette once in a while and one other place in another city which was a fine dining establishment, though Don's was fine dining to me. I thought getting the crayons and the page to color was so neat, even though I had plenty to color at home. It was like getting a party favor. Loved it. My parents loved it because we were all highly entertained and they got to chat while we colored.
There were very few chains around at that time. The truth is that the local restaurants started the crayons to kids thing. Not the other way around.

I'd rather crayons than an iPad playing some cartoon which is what so many parents do now while eating out.

Yep. Any day. Crayons bring back happy memories to me. I would get crayons and the little plastic bright colored monkeys on my Dad's martinis. I thought they were the bomb!
