hey, give me some crayons and a shirley temple and I was happy!

Reminds me of my grandparents taking us to the Camelot Club. My mom felt it necessary to go above and beyond the fine dining attire and dress me up like a pageant doll.

My bad, I didn't take that picture. I refuse to take a picture in a room of people eating. We had like a dozen people come in the 1840 room and take pictures with us in them. Didn't like that much.

Yep. Any day. Crayons bring back happy memories to me

They keep the kids distracted the whole time too. Made it a lot easier. I don't expect them, but they get fidgety without something to do. We just got back from a Mexican restaurant (Don Jose's) they don't color there, both were enthralled by watching World Series of Poker on TV though. So there was that.

My regular waiter at Ruth's Chris BR is terrific with my young nieces. He makes sure those Shirley Temples are garnished with the max. They're in heaven there. All smiles and giggles. Love the experience with them. I could give a rat's behind what anyone thinks. People today are so overly judgmental and stressed that I think they miss out on joy. God forbid someone in restaurant isn't dressed correctly. God forbid crayons are given out to kids. So many other silly things, to me, that others have ruffled feathers over. I'm so I don't get bent out of shape over such minutia or other people's tastes. EXCEPT FOR GUMBO.

$40 fish that is overcooked to death and swimming in butter.
$50 filet that is mushy
Cold oysters Foch
Shrimp remoulade made with bad shrimp
Greasy and flat "soufleed" potatoes.

These are just some of the reasons that Antoine's sucks.

I've eaten there once, and the only thing I enjoyed was the Baked Alaska.

Sorry bro, but if you hate Antoine's that means you're overly judgmental and stressed out.

Also on topic, nothing wrong with not liking a restaurant.

I was underwhelmed by Cochon and Serendipity after reviews on here. I since have been to Cochon three more times, and have concluded the first time was a fluke.
Antoine's could improve some things, but there is nothing wrong with a difference of opinion.

I found my last meat at Antoine's to be disappointing for the most part. Unlikely I will return due to the food (not because kids get crayons or people in jeans can eat there). Sad because the restaurant is historic and many parts of it are lovely. I do think everyone should at least tour the place, but for that type of food, I find Arnaud's and Galatoire's and, for some dishes, Bon Ton to be miles better.

It's good your girls experienced it. I've had a feeling it might bite the bullet next and it would be a shame not to have gone. I'm glad I went to Brennan's. Wasn't ever planning to go back because it wasn't all that, but I'm glad I went.

Thanks for the review and the pics. I'm glad you and the girls enjoyed it.

But...I gotta say...

Those plates look amateur and terrible. And based on what you said in another post about what you paid for the Shirley temples ($7) and the kid's desserts...this just seems like a huge fail food wise.

And then to top it off with this...

quote:

He also practically begged me not to tip with a credit card.

That is beyond unprofessional to even discuss anything having to do with a tip.

It sounds (an I'm assuming) that your enjoyment of it all has to do with the atmosphere and the time spent with your family. Nothing wrong with that.

But I'm surprised to hear that with all of the amazing restaurants in the city, that you'd ever go back.

I was talking to Winkface. She was a Maid in Hermes. She knows that my grandfather, aunt and sister have pictures in one of the rooms. I was a paige in that one as well.

Most of the places you "hate" on here have never been graced with your presence.

It taste good, and I was willing to return to try more "signature" items. Though it probably won't be any time soon. There are a lot of great places I haven't been. I think the plating has to do with being a $20 lunch, but the parsley is old school. I went over the receipt again and saw that each Temple was actually $3.50 they were charged for refills.
The $7 ice cream was high, but oh well.

I have R'Evolution, Emeril's, Le Petit, Criollo and Delachase(second shot) in my upcoming nice night out que. With some mid-level places sprinkled in.
Also have to go to Andrea's before groupon expires.

No that's just their style .. much like many older Nola restaurants. Cafe Giovanni plates just as shittily and also has probably about the same quality of food.

all are most excellent .. haven't been to Criollo.

Delachase(second shot)

Delachaise I see as more of a good bar with decent food, rather than a place to seek out to eat dinner.

Me too. I'm so behind on reviews. I've got to do Commander's, Apolline, Bouligny Tavern (horrible), Nirvana, Abita Brew Pub and Schiro's Café.

My list of need to try places...

R'evolution
Le Petit
Clancy's
Bistro Daisy
