Sitting down at a table is being an a-hole? Just stop.

And if they won’t sit a table within a certain time period before closing either convey that to customers or change your closing time.

Someone said earlier that it’s posted at the restaurant.

So you don’t know for sure if it is. As I said, you’re trying too hard.

The OP said they “seated ourselves per instructions”. Perhaps the restaurant needs to make sure that sign says not only to seat yourself, but not to do so past 8:30 (although according to you, there can also be a buffer before the actual 8:30 cut off . . . They should post that too).

Whether there’s a post that says no tables past 8:30 or not, it’s both common sense and common courtesy 30 minutes before closing, and just general non-a-hole behavior, to at least check with staff. Which OP didn’t do because he claims that he didn’t know they closed at 9. Like I said, OP could have easily handled this differently and probably got his pizza, by simply not being pushy and oblivious to closing time.

But I’m the one trying too hard lol

CSB, tried to go there after a day football game last year. Was 815 as the wife refuses to go anywhere closer to closing time. They had a sign out front saying they closed early. Settled for the worst Domino’s ever. Downvotes over there >>>

But…late night restaurants are always risky and you gotta know that going in.

Waitress avoided them for 10 minutes so she could use the 8:30 excuse.

She sucks.

This isn’t specific to Red Zeppelin , but in restaurants the problem with the “We don’t sit anyone after 8:30” excuse is that now the front of the house thinks that the closing time for the restaurant is 8:30. Anyone that comes in shortly before 8:30 is treated with an attitude of “we are about to close.”

I never forced a customer out if they came in close to closing, and I worked where we served until 11pm.

Now, someone might ask when we close and they may decide to not stay if it's 10:55 and they find out we close at 11.

This is today's generation that doesn't want to work.

I’ve never been to any comparable restaurant to Red Zepplin that did this.

I worked in restaurants for years and while yes it’s a pain in the arse to have a table sit 10 minutes to close, you still serve them. It’s the nature of the business.

Pretty sure they are one in the same. It'd be almost unpossible to have two such retarded douchbags in the same setting..

Exactly. I tried to point that out in a response to one of TackySweater's asinine posts. If you follow his recommendation, the restaurant actually has three "closing" times. 9 p.m., when they close the doors, 8:30 p.m., when they will no longer seat a table, and 8:20 p.m. (or 8:10 depending on the staff's whims), when you as a customer shouldn't try to sit down.

That's ridiculous.

yeah, this.

I worked at one of the busiest restaurants in BR and we were sitting people that came in 30 seconds before closing. That is 100% the standard. Annoying? Sure. But that's the way it is. Red Zep is anomalous in this regard and I'd be pissed if I were OP too. If the 8:30 thing really is is standard policy, that better be plastered everywhere at the restaurant and on their website.

Closing time does not mean "everyone has to be out of the restaurant by this time"

Yep. When I ran restaurants I made very sure that the FOH knew that the closing time posted on the door was for customers and it was not the time they get to go home. If a customer came in at 9:59 we served them.

Also. We are comparing apples to oranges here by comparing this to other restaurants (who mostly all close at 10pm or later).

I definitely understand restaurants that run the numbers and decide 9pm is when to officially close instead of 10pm, but the fact is you're closing a full hour earlier than everywhere else that isn't a lunch cafe/diner.

When you choose to close that early as a pizza and beer joint, you shouldn't be kicking people out 35 minutes before that posted close time on a Saturday night. 8:25pm is very much still the tail end of dinner rush in many restaurants.

Red Zep is plastered with pitcher specials and beer posters on every blank window and wall they have. This isn't Frank's on Airline turning away a rogue patron who wants breakfast at 8pm.

I have never seen a "last seating at 8:30" sign there, FWIW. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but nobody in this thread has confirmed it actually is posted anywhere and it def isn't on the website or Google info. I don't know why TS is clinging onto that as if it is truth.
