I had 5 burners with the 5th being on the side for warming or cooking in a skillet, etc. This wasn't top of the line, but it was one of the best wedding gifts I got from my friends.

From a personal perspective I do understand that charcoal may provide a better overall experience, but with my wife and I both working full time, we feel like gas is the way to go. For a family of two that sometimes entertains, what and where do you all recommend we look for and at respectively in order to find the best value for our money.

Keep in mind that my motto is, "Never pay retail," and I'm a bit of a skeptic towards the Big/Little Green Egg stuff.

Thanks in advance F&D Board!

I'd recommend the Char-Griller propane grill. 3 burners but doesn't have a side burner I believe. It's definitely not top of the line, and would likely have to be replaced in 5 years but that is reflected in the price.

Buddy of mine has one and man does that thing get hot quick. Got to like 650° in 10 minutes and flash seared my steak beautifully. I have an old Weber (at least 10 yrs) now and it takes her a solid 25 minutes to get north of 550°.

Never understood this reasoning. Get a chimney starter, and your coals are ready in 15 minutes. How long does it take a gas grill to come to temp? 7 minutes?

My gas grill and separate gas smoker are both on their last legs. I'm going with the ceramic style next to satisfy both needs with one cooker.

I walk out to my patio. I turn on the propane tank valve. I open the grill. I turn the burner valves on. I press a button.

My grill is on and warming. This process takes about 9.3 seconds. It's not just time. It's less hassle for both prep and cleanup. I never buy charcoal nor do I buy lighter fluid, nor matches, etc.

Don't be skeptical of ceramic cookers. They will last a lot longer than a portable, throwaway gas grill.

I personally have the Primo Oval XL. Got all the accessories with it for $800.00. Found a Craigslist deal where lady only used it once.

Agreed.
The argument that the gas grills get hot faster is pretty irrelevant. We all have a bit of Mis en Place to attend to before cooking anyway, perhaps another dish as well?

From what I can tell you have gas people and you have charcoal people, some will be converted one way or the other but for the most part you stay what you are. I am a gas person and weber is the way to go. I don't need all the bells and whistles that I will never use just a great quality gas grill, that will last and weber does that. Get the genesis or summit line and stay away from the spirit or sprint line

Just go get whatever Weber is in your price range and buy the last grill you'll likely ever need with just minor maintenance.

Can't go wrong with Weber for either gas or charcoal. You pay a little more but it lasts. Great grills!

Just bought a Weber Genesis E-330. Love it so far. Gets up to 550F in about 5 minutes.

There is cleaning too. Gas is just way easier to deal with on a weekday, there is no denying that.

ideally, i would have a nice smoker and decent gas grill.

also this. Green eggs are awesome and you can do pretty much anything one them.

just dont waste you money buying $1000 stand. Build your own using blueprint/diy guides online.
