I am in the San Francisco area for a few days and looking to get some good beer. Any must visit places I need to check out? Any area with multiple solid spots within walking distance? Any advice would be great. All I really know about is Russian River.

Toranado was great.
I really dug Shanghai Kelly's. Of course, they had an autographed photo of Neil Young over the bar and and cheap Lagunitas.

Yeah, it's great too. Go next door and get some sausage (not gay).

Cool place. Pliny was something like $5 a pint. If you got room in your luggage, you can buy pliny bottles from behind the bar. 4 per person.

They have another cool bar on the next block but I can't remember the name. Real grungey place hole in the wall. Not anything worth a shite to drink but high life but the bar is my kind of place.

Yeah I am liking these bar hoping options. I know my brother would love for me to bring home pliny but I packed very light. I may need to figure out a way to ship. Would be a good fathers day gift.

If you're checking a luggage bag, just wrap a bottle or two separately in some shirts.

Was going to suggest both of these.

Agree with Cellarmaker and Toronado as mentioned.

Would also recommend City Beer both to drink at (they have around a dozen taps that always have great beers to choose from plus an amazing bottle selection to drink onsite, though they can be pricey), as well as a great selection for sale. They get weekly shipments from Russian River, I think on Wednesday, so you may be able to save a trip.

Cellarmaker and City Beer Store are both great and only like a block apart.

Do a tour of the Anchor Steam Brewery in the Portero Hill neighborhood. It is well worth it.
