Unfortunately for visitors, a lot of the foods we eat in our homes aren’t well represented in restaurants. Especially in New Orleans. Maybe in Cajun plate lunch convenience stores.

If he were to get crawfish I would probably recommend a local seafood spot. I don’t mean a restaurant I mean a place that just sells shite to go, if that’s even still a thing. Growing up in Chalmette it seemed like every neighborhood had one. I bet Kenner seafood does a fine job but there must be something closer.

Maybe a place like Toups’ Meatery where you can get a taste of boudin balls, cracklins, and dirty rice, and maybe the couvillon for a sample of some rice and (sort of) gravy.

I just called and got a recording that you can pick up their muffs at Zuppardo's in Metairie and order them to ship, so apparently their shop on Decatur is still closed.

Good call, and I'd also recommend Venezia's on Carrollton not far from Mandina's. Some very good Italian food served there.
My favorite dish from Venesia's is their "Eggplant Vatican".

Bevi on Carrollton is a good spot to dine in for boiled crawfish. Also Clesi's on Bienville.

I can't tell you how many times I've hit up that Brother's on Common at Carondelet. The meat pies are solid as are the chicken on the bone. I don't really recommend the fries or the tendies, though.
