I agree with the scale. I got one recently and I use it quite often. I like to bake and it is really useful for baking. It also makes it easy if you find a recipe using the metric system. No need to worry about conversions and having odd measurements. Also use the scale to portion out food when I buy in bulk.

I wish I could find a good one at a decent price. I have a fairly powerful KitchenAid one, but I'm on my THIRD bowl. The stupid safety latch thingy keeps breaking. So I mostly use my Bamix instead.

I don't know about common/unusual, but I use my immersion blender a ton. It's one of my favorite kitchen tools.
My microplanes (large and small) get a lot of use as does my zester for the citrus curls.
I've had a PepperMate pepper grinder for over 20 years and it still works like a charm. It's by far my favorite pepper grinder. I have several now for various peppercorns.

A use my Blendtec all the time. Not sure whether that counts as a gadget.
Otherwise...a cheap box cutter for opening stuff, on a lanyard out in the open. Saves a lot of time looking for knives, and saves wear on your good ones.

I've got a really old one that looks like the one on the right.
It works pretty damn well.

I have the same old plastic pepper grinder from college. At least 15 years old. I remember buying it when I got my first apartment my jr year. It has the salt shaker up top and the grinder on the bottom, with three different settings for the grinder. It still irks me when my wife grabs the pepper shaker when we're cooking.
I'm definitely interested in that butter knife. I always end up melting a slice in the microwave for making toast.

I got my maternal grandmother's Mouli, As Seen On TV like the all metal oldies on this linked Ebay page.
Use it any time I want hash browns (taters and onions) or bulk amounts of veggies/hard cheeses. Will try it on cucumbers for sliced pickles this year instead of rustic hand slicing.
Woulda had the old metal cylinder style cheese grater like on the linked page but it finally wore out shortly before Grandma did.

Not particularly unusual, but a good pair of kitchen shears serve a ton of purposes, from opening packages to cutting up poultry. Use mine every day.

I've seen tons of generic ones but my Pampered Chef version has lasted forever. It's simple but I use it at least twice a week between ground beef or ground turkey.

I have a cheaper generic version of that whatever it's called. I used mine last night. It has to be at least 10 years old. Good tool.
