Anyone else fondly recall going to Old School Chinese places that played the Chinese background music? I don’t know what got me thinking of this, but it seems like almost every old school place used to do it and now I can’t even recall the last time I encountered it anywhere.

I guess places just grew to think it too cliche, but it just felt so perfect to me.

I want it back!!!

Jim Brewer has a great, sentimental bit about the music at Chinese places.

Do China Doll and Empress of China on the westbank no longer play the music? They still have the interior to go along with it.

The now defunct "China Imperial" that was located on Carrollton and Bienville in an old shopping center that was torn down after Katrina would play Asian style music. My wife and I would eat there a couple times a month.

They also had a huge arowana in a tank near the front door that had to be damn near 3 ft. long. I found that odd since that fish is native to South America, but it was a great conversation piece.

For Chinese food, we get Five Happiness and it is always a Take-Out order. Last time we ate there was about 10 years ago and I really can't recall any music.

ironic you post this

Last week my kid and I went for dinner at Sushi Village on Coursey in BTR. It was our first time there.

Other than us there was only 1 other table with patrons. It was quiet as could be - no music playing, no chatter, nothing. It was so quiet that it was creepy..

I would killed to have heard this in the background!

Not Chinese, but there was one of those Mongolian BBQ joints near me that played Most Extreme Elimination Challenge on a loop. They must have had all of the episodes. It was a great dining experience

Dining in a restaurant in Kunming China probably 2012ish and there is nothing like hearing American rock music sung by a ChinnyMan.

Night Moves by Bob Seger done with a Chinese accent is really something special. It was done in English, not Mandarin but...........

Chopstick Chinese Restaurant in Bay St Louis down the road from Hollywood Casino plays the old school music.

Always takes me back.
