I tell people to classify the taste of these oysters to a Chardonnay grape. They take on the flavors of the environment around them.
It's called merroir. Like wine terroir, but for oysters.

Murder Point has gotten into the wholesale business down in Bayou La Batre. The Zirlotts got into the oyster farming business after the oil spill slowed their shrimping business.

I live about 2 miles from the Zirlotts now. Good people that have known my wife's family for probably decades. That's where I get my shrimp.

I believe you are thinking of Navy Cove oysters. LSUmailman has posted in this thread.

Navy Cove oysters are excellent. They can also be purchased and shipped at a significantly cheaper price than Murder Points, which are indeed very good oysters.

Not murder point but these are very good also. Get the sampler pack. Reasonably priced

Their BlackBerry are the most popular.

From their website

It's pricy to get them shipped, but I can handle an every now and then splurge for these.

They only harvest on certain days, so you can't just get them shipped whenever

At Shuck Cancer charity event every year I eat my way through 30+ different raw oysters from around the Gulf, East Coast and upper West Coast. The Alabama Murder Points are always the best. Right size and salinity and a creaminess and depth of flavor that put them over the top.

I had a professor at Alabama named Kent Zirlott from Bayou La Batre... never thought I'd hear that name again.

I give a slight edge to true cold water oysters on the east and west coasts, but murder points are significantly better than our standard "gulf oysters", in my opinion.

Enjoy! They really are delicious gulf oysters. Not kidding when I say I ate nearly 4 dozen of them the first time I tried them. I could not stop.

I typically enjoy oysters on a cracker with some hot sauce or lemon and horseradish, but I was sucking these right off the halfshell as quickly as they could shuck them. Petite and briny with a buttery finish. Perfect for eating raw

Thanks Otis! Bon Secour Fisheries will ship the Navy Cove oysters to your front door. We just added a new wholesaler last month and my oysters made it to Pamplona in Lafayette. I’ve had oysters from all over the world in the last 8 years and I’ll put up the Alabama farm raised oysters against any oyster. I may be biased but they are producing a great product. On a side note, i have raised seed oysters and sold quite a bit to Louisiana. Brightside oysters and Lady Nellie oysters have started on my farm and then moved to Louisiana. The triploid oyster we produce stays fat and meaty year round so they can be enjoyed in the summer.

I should add to the narrative that Navy Cove Oysters are run and owned by 3 LSU alumni with 2 being former and retired professors. Murder Point are Alabama boys. Support local lol
