After taking too long to successfully cook popcorn without burning, I finally figured how with my wok. I use coconut oil and flavocol when I want buttery/salty popcorn and cheddar powder when I want cheesy popcorn. Still looking for better brands of popcorn so definitely up for suggestions if anyone has any.

I get my can of butter flavored spray oil in one hand and my shaker of salt in the other. I use an air popper. As the popped kernels spill into my bowl, I spray them with the oil and shake a little salt on them. I do this continually as the kernels are popping and then spray and sprinkle a bit more at the end while stirring to make sure everything is well coated. So good!

I did as well. Once with olive oil and once with coconut. I preferred the olive oil, but I think I also put more of it in the pot.

Tried this yesterday with avocado oil and it worked pretty well. Couldn't find popcorn salt so I ground up kosher salt in a mortar and pestle and it worked pretty well. Go some flavacol en route.

Seems expensive.

Maybe that's why movie theaters charge $8 for a box of popcorn.

No, really, how much can a few tablespoons of coconut oil cost to make popcorn at home???

I use a butter flavored oil, and add a slice of real salted butter to it while it is heating up. Once the butter is melted, toss in 3-4 kernels and wait. I also add salt to the oil. That first kernel pops and I put in the rest and shake the pot around. About 2-3 minutes later we're done. No real need to add any more butter or salt at that point.

we were gifted one like this:

LINK

except it did not come with the wagon wheel stand. we have it sitting on a black cabinet where we store the vat of coconut oil, popcorn & flavacol.

we love it. not only does it look, sound and smell authentic when popping a quick batch of popcorn but form follows function ... you add both the coconut oil and a *LITTLE* flavacol to the kettle and the 'stirrer' integrates the salt properly and once the oil is hot pour in a scoop of popcorn and get ready for fun..

its super easy to make popcorn but a bit of a pain to clean the glass and uncooked kernels which get everywhere.

the authentic experience is well worth the minor inconvenience of upkeep. it does come apart so i scrub it in the sink once or twice a year.

you will need to run a few batches and work on your measurements (oil to popcorn to salt ratio) until you've got that dialed in perfectly.

after having this i realized how awful microwave popcorn tastes by comparison.

We have one for our store that we use for events. We got tired of renting one.

The one we have is like the one linked. You can buy corn packs for it that include the oil, butter, corn, and seasoning. Simply cut the pack with a knife and dump the entirety into the pot and close the lid.

Damn I thought this was a “how to” on making that movie theater butter-like substance.

Just buy some butter flavored topping on Amazon in a big plastic jug, that shite is not butter in the slightest.

Flavacol and the coconut oil made for cooking popcorn is the way to go to get authentic, whoever said to add a little bit of flavacol to the pot is spot on. We always added a bit to the cooker and then more afterward at the Regal I worked at.

How much popcorn do you go through?

A diet of green steaks and 12.5 pounds of popcorn, sounds legit.
