I have only been once. My wife and i took her mom and great aunt after hearing so much about it over the years.....I was actually embarrassed after talking it up while we waited for about 30 minutes in line. We did meet Bobby Hebert's parents and his daughter in line which was really cool. Really nice down to earth folks...

I went once and got the same treatment as everybody else. By the time I got to the front of the line I was almost too intimidated to even order. Mother's and Cafe du Monde are the two most overrated places in N.O.

Much better places offer better food, service and prices than these two places.

Johnny's

What he said.

I've always enjoyed a Johnny's poboy, but when I bring people from out of town there they absolutely go crazy over them. I always tell people to get it how they make it. They put the perfect amount of dressings and meat, and the bread is just spot on. Worth the wait in line every single time. Might even want to pick up a shrimp to go.

Overpriced and lines are too long, but the Ferdi is a pretty damn solid sammich. So long as there is no line, I always enjoy the hell outta them.

This is the right answer.

I'd put the quality of their product up against any similar "poboy" type place in town. Hardly anyone else baking their own hams, cooking their own roast beef, and cooking fried seafood to order. Also, I also actually prefer the way they dress their poboys. I like cabbage. As for price, it ain't all that off from anywhere else, especially given their product.

Still, it's not somewhere I'd go to if the line is out the door.

if the Bears in BR is like the one in New Orleans I don't buy them being better than Mother's. I'm not huge on Mothers, but the Bears here sucks

Overpriced tourist trap. I worked right across the street in the Texaco building in the late 90's. Ate there twice. $9 for a plate of red beans!?? I kept looking for the hidden gold nugget. But, nope, none there. I remember looking out of my window and seeing people lined up around the block around mardi gras time. That's a long cold wait to pay too much for food.

not as good as the late 80s early 90s. last few times i have been in the last 5 yrs was not as good. skimpier on meat and prices higher. understand with inflation and all on the cost but product not as good especiall if there is a line of more than 10 people. the ferdi with debris is / was killer. feel the sdame way with felix's in the quarter

People are mentioning the "Ferdy" as if it's high quality (and what does it cost, like $12?!)

Last week, I had a roast beef/ham sandwich at Martin's Wine Cellar that was galaxies ahead of the "Ferdy".

I was in N.O. about 2 weeks ago and got a shrimp poboy from mothers. It was good, but I've had better over their.

Didnt know there was a Bears in BR, are they expanding that much? The original one in Covington has the best poboys I've ever had.

if bears in br is not good, then I am convinced br is a poboy vacuum. Bears is my favorite roast beef.

I had a "debris" style RB po-boy at Ignatious the other that would easily stand up against Mother's. Tore that damn thing up!
