re: Report: Archbishop Gregory Aymond covered up clergy abuse for years, continues to do so

quote:
I've been working inside the Church for a bit... a few thoughts 1) it's clearly an awful and regrettable situation that is likely bigger than anyone really knows. 2) years ago and perhaps still today, devout Catholic families would send their socially awkward or potentially gay children to seminary... this is a bit of an unspoken reality. 3) there are tons of processes and safeguards in place today that were not in place years ago. 4) the priests are human and as all humans, nobody is perfect. that's not an excuse, just an observation that they by and large have similar emotions and thoughts that the rest of us have. 5) it is perhaps a bit unnatural to ask men, especially in modern times, to give up so much for a life of sacrifice. 6) ergo, a lot of priests struggle w/ mental health. If some of these realities negatively affect your faith, I get it. For me it's the opposite - that we're all imperfect. Granted, taking advantage of kids is among the worst things someone can do. It's heinous. I think it wears on the good people involved in the Church as well. Just my two cents.
Thank you for sharing. I agree with a lot of your points. You mentioned being around the church a lot.
Have you ever met Aymond? And if so, what would you say to him today about all these recent allegations? What questions would you have for him about how things can improve going forward? Do you think he needs to go, and if not, what can he do better to gain the trust of Catholics on the fence with their faith?
I’m genuinely curious.

You sound soft. Just put ice on it and see a doctor if it doesn’t get better.

To be fair, I watched most the game tonight, and NE's oline is pretty banged up and it was windy as hell. But Brady did look off.
re: Rouses or Winn Dixie.

I use Winn Dixie for nonperishable items (beans, chips, OTC meds etc) or necessities I need in a pinch like milk or eggs.
Rouses for the produce, meats, fish and just about everything else.

Raiders have to be up there. Love Gruden, but cannot take that organization seriously.

Appreciate you clarifying.. Wasn't trying to troll, was just first thing that popped in my head when saw the numbers. Looks like a great deal.

Not complaining, but didn't someone post an article a couple weeks ago that Cam was willing to take a paycut to stay with the Saints?
Edit: Thanks, Bonethug...found article on first page. He said he wasn't looking for Mack or Donald money.

Ecco the Dolphin was the first game I owned for the Sega CD as an 8 year old. Remember being blown away by graphics, but it was so ridiculously hard, haha. Just thinking about it makes me want to throw my phone.

Lol at hating on Bush. Obvious troll. 70k people chanting "Reggie" everytime he lined up to field a punt would disagree with you.

All long shots, but Mountain and Hound need to fight or I'll be upset, haha.

Did this 3 to 4 years ago. If you can alternate it with pullups, you will definitely see results without even going to a gym.

re: Kitchen Tricks That Make Life Easier
Posted by WarmBubble on 2/11/19 at 7:01 pm to AbitaFan08
Few that come to mind...
-use small wooden cutting boards for cutting veggies. Makes for easy clean and don't need soap
-use a hot, wet wash cloth or towel with dish soap to clean counters or wooden dining room tables. Cheaper than disinfecting wipes/paper towels and disinfecting spray
-use tupperware that are glass and transparent instead of plastic. Lasts longer, easier to clean, and you are more likely to ear your leftovers if you can see it (for me, at least)
-use butcher knives for spreading butter or any paste, peanut butter, condiment, etc on bread. Much easier than butter knives
-use old wine bottles with metal spouts if you cook with olive oil a lot. Takes up less room than the traditional large olive oil bottles (assuming you dont have a smaller glass one already)

Need Book Recc: Historical Fiction
Posted by WarmBubble on 11/30/18 at 9:03 am
A friend of mine is being hospitalized the next week and I want to gift him a few books.
I know he is a big fan of historical fiction, especially WWII related.
Will be going to Barnes and Noble later today, but figured I'd ask here first...
Any books that have been released within the last year that someone can reccomend? Doesn't have to be war related, but would be ideal.
Thanks in advance!

No love for Irene's?
Moscas is probably as old school as you can get. One of the few cash only restaurants in the area, I believe.

re: Anyone here had total thyroidectomy?
Posted by WarmBubble on 7/22/18 at 10:58 pm to dukeg
A lower TSH usually means that your thyroid hormone will be "hyper". TSH (above 10, usually) causes the thyroid hormone to be "hypo". Its a negative feedback loop. So yes, low TSH typcially means you will have a high metalbolism and have a hard time gaining weight and vice a versa.
I had a thyroidectomy 10 years ago and take synthroid. Hardest part is to maintain the levels. Just dont be stubborn and skip your blood tests. Thyroid meds are extremely sensitive to drug and food interactions.
Being hypo and hyper both suck. But after a while, you know pretty quickly if something is off and you need an adjustment with meds. I have never needed a dosage adjustment. Just had to stay disciplined.
All in all, its a pain in the arse at first, but dont sweat the weight gain. Your energy will suck the first few months and you will be cloudy, but that's part of it. No chemo is typcially needed. Radiactive iodine depending if cancer, and ultrasounds and scans yearly. Best advice is to get a good endo that takes their time with you. Cant stress that enough.
IM if you have any questions. 10 years in remission next July. Also, embrace the scar. Makes for a good story, and chicks dig it. Good luck to you.

What solid rookie WR are you referring to?
I'm drawing a blank. All I can think of is Thomas, but he's in year two, right?
