JI is solid. If nothing else, coupled with some drinks at Maple Leaf, it is real live NOLA experience. Frid chicken there is the shite.

I also want to say that a muff from Central Grocery and a Barq's is underrated, simply because it is the best thing you can eat/drink for 10 bucks on the planet.

This has been my favorite meal in the world since I have been a child...and it continues to be without a doubt.

And to those, who say that my opinion is total bs aout JI...its good food and a great New Orleans experience (especially when paired with the Maple Leaf). It is the first place I bring tourists often...that does not mean its a top 20 food restaurant. It is certainly in my top 20 favorite restaurants in NOLA though for the experience.

I have been going to JI since within a month of its initial opening...to the person who called total bs on my opinion, I am sure that if you had as well you would agree that the food has significantly declined and become almost lazy in production and presentation. Its still a fun place though.

And as to YA's Ramada picture.... .

It's hard for people to grasp that concept when talking about great places to eat.

Dude, I get it...it doesn't excuse the decline in food. Dick and Jenny's is certainly not fine dining and easily falls in my top 20. I have had some meals there that rival the best dishes I have ever had in my life.

If we were to take JI's food out of the fun, drinking environment, the food would not hold up as well as other establishements. I am not discounting the overall experience though.

JI's food isn't bad per se, but I think the whole "scene" there is sort of a cliche, bordering on a parody, of what a funky New Orleans place should be, as interpreted by a dude from Chicago.

Pelican Club. Of all the places I have been, I can honestly say it is the one place that has never been a disapointment on food or service.

All the mentions of the Pelican Club really surprise me. I have been twice, the fist time was Christmas '06. I thought the food was merely OK and our service was terrible. Our waiter actually argued with my father over a bottle of wine that everyone at the table agreed was not good. We had to call the manager.

We went again this summer for the prix fixe menu. My dish was good but others at the table said they were eating banquet food. We were not allowed to order appetizers ahead of our meal. Our service was not good. I will not go back.

Panola Street Cafe, Petunia's (it is good, but very over-hyped on this board)

I was gonna list Maple Street Cafe but I didn't consider it a restaurant.

Maple Street has awesome food. Love that place.

I understand what you are saying TigerAttorney. But I go to Jacques for the Lamb loin. Not many places in the city serve it and it is one of the best meals I've ever had.

I do think also that Ye Old College Inn is overrated. What is exceptional there?
