Tiger Attorney that is complete and utter BS.
Jacquesimo's is one of the only true NOLA experiences left. You can go to it in Tshirt and jeans and be served high quality dishes at an affordable rate.
It is what it is and thank god for that.
I'm not a big fan of a place that you can't go to in casual attire for great food.
Overrated:
Anything from Drago's besides the charbroiled oysters
Anything at Pascale Manale besides the bbq shrimp
Undrrated:
Ignatious

And it begins.
First of all, would Clancy's, Dick and Jenny's, Brightson's, etc, not be a N.O. experience?
JI is not bad, but it is not all it is made out to be by so many of the cult like followers. There is nothing polished about the food and as a matter of fact, some of the sauces they put on the food is nothing more than glorified glop. Is there really talent in the kitchen or just people who are putting out ok food to the starving masses who have been standing around for an hour drinking sugary mixed drinks while waiting for their table?
I don't care for the stupid wait and once inside I am not a fan of the cluster fck that is what the place turns into on the weekends.
I will gladly go there and make the best of it, but please don't tell me it is a "great" restaurant or a tops in the city.
Maybe it can't get the label for the most fun restaurant in the city or one of the more unique experiences.

force,
I agree... if I'm taking people to NO I'm taking them to jacque imos usually first.... and they love it.... as do I. the only thing I haven't enjoyed there is the venison. But other than that I love it.
And Pelican Club is one of my faves... it is severely underrated.

I never said it was tops in the city, but it is "great."
To each his own but I've never taken anyone eat there and had a complaint. In fact, I've taken many chefs there who state "for the price it's one of the best meals in the city"

But, I found the food to be mediocre and the atmosphere to be like a Ramada Inn banquet room.
Best description I've heard in a very long time!

Yep, we will have to agree to disagree.
To me the place is kind of like a glorified Copelands as far as the food goes. The last two times I was there I felt like cattle being herded in and out. The waitress just walks up and wants your order, that is if she can hear it above the roar of the place. Then when the food comes they barely stop long enough to throw it on the table. 30 minutes later I felt I was getting the staredown that it was time to leave.
I agree, for a group wanting to drink and have fun, it is fun.
When someone ask for a great date place or name the best N.O. restaurants, I just don't agree that it should pop up.

For shits and giggles, I googled "ramada inn banquet room" and one of the first pics to pop up, is literally a dead ringer for Andrea's dining room:

I will say this, his new bar he has put in is money. Nice place and they have some music in there a few nights a week.
I haven't eaten in there in a very long time.

Love the carpet, but I've got a soft spot for that acoustical tile ceiling.

have not been in many years, but Gautreau's was awesome.
Posted on 10/29/08 at 8:13 pm to OTIS2
Went to Gautreau's about a month ago and it was easily one of the best meals I've ever had. That being said, I wouldn't call it underrated, since Anderson put it in his top 10 in Laginappe last year. Definitely undergoing a renaissance of sorts though, so I see where you're coming from on that. Hoping to go to Iris sometime this month, and I really want to go back to MiLa, because I only got to eat lunch there.

Pelican Club. Of all the places I have been, I can honestly say it is the one place that has never been a disapointment on food or service.

Btw, I had angel hair pasta tossed with smoked salmon flamed with vodka in a light cream sauce & topped with caviar. It was very imaginitaive. I've recreated the dish many times in my own kitchen.

It isn't fine dining, its creole soul food with some unique touches. And some things it does better than anywhere else. Their fried dishes for instance, which they learned from the best chicken fryer ever to walk the earth when he was the fry chef there.

It's hard for people to grasp that concept when talking about great places to eat. And YES it is the best fried chicken in the world.

Hard to believe JI is the best fried chicken now that Austin Leslie is no longer with us.
