Wegmans is awesome.

Will confirm. Only bad thing about Wegmans is that the two locations here in Richmond are way out in the Suburbs. The Supermarket Wars has been great for Richmond; Aldi, Lidl, Publix, Wegmans, Kroger, Food Lion, Fresh Market, etc. It's too bad there is only one Trader Joe's here and not more independent farmstands like down south.

Lidl is very similar to Aldi. Both are great low cost grocers from Germany. I wish we could get either in the BR area.

I’m hearing rumblings of Publix purchasing Rouses.

Strategically it would be a good fit for both chains. Especially for Publix.

However, Rouses has some younger family members now running the show, and they seem to be expansion-minded of their own. Like someone else said... the price to buy Rouses is gonna be rather high.

I mean there's one store that fits that criteria and it's one of y'all's whole foods.

Central market blows whole foods out of the water in just about every category. You can also get more normal stuff at Central market, where at whole foods you can't.

The only way that Winn Dixie will make it is if they have enough money to make every store like the one at the corner of Burbank and Lee in BR.

No way that will happen though.

but if HEB ever wanted to have an eastward expansion... that would be awesome.

How many of the stores are in good locations? Don't all the Winn Dixie stores need massive renovations? Sounds like a bad purchase...

That's an understatement. I'm kind of surprised Food Lion has survived. New Orleans is in desperate need of one. The Midlothian Wegmans isn't even that far from me, but Kroger's, Aldi, and Lidl are closer, with another Kroger more convenient. Heard that Publix is coming to Forest Hill, which would be great.
Honest question for the guy saying hard pass on Kroger, why? They seem to me to be really good stores. Dorignacs is probably the only one nicer in the New Orleans area, that I have been to.
Granted I have very limited experience with Publix and HEB.

Publix at the moment is strategically moving its way up the east coast, 3-4 years ago introducing itself into Tennessee and North Carolina , now slowly into Virginia. Publix has ZERO debt, purchasing everything with cash. All this while have 8 billion dollars in savings. I don’t see them over expanding themselves into Louisiana etc. They biggest issue for them at this time is finding associates to man their stores, training and expectations to the Publix standard.

Can't speak for HEB, but Publix is easily the best grocery store experience I've ever had. Extremely courteous employees and always fresh produce that lasts. I wish they would buy out rouses.

When I was in college the only store more overpriced than that Winn-Dixie was on campus.

When I was in college (prior to the Neighborhood Market on Highland and the Wal Mart on Burbank) that store was making the most revenue and gross margin in the company. That store manager was making more that most district managers....he was raking in damn near 200K per year after bonuses...hell his base as a store manager was around 90K.

I'm sure competition in the area has changed that now.

Publix is the best chain grocery store hands down.

No it's not.

Have extensive experience with Publix stores in FL, SC, GA, and AL. H-E-B is so far superior to Publix this isn't even debatable for those familiar with both.
