How many of the stores are in good locations? Don't all the Winn Dixie stores need massive renovations? Sounds like a bad purchase...

Winn Dixie has renovated a number of their stores. The one closest to me got renovated about 2 years ago. Some of them are probably not the greatest location/leases/conditions.

Honest question for the guy saying hard pass on Kroger, why? They seem to me to be really good stores.

I've had experience with the regular Kroger stores as well as the "Signature" stores.

I found they played a lot of the same "shopping card" tricks that Winn Dixie does. If there is a sale, then the price is comparable to other places, but if it's not on sale, then the prices are really high. It's hard to do grocery shopping with just sale items at one store. I'd just rather go somewhere that overall had lower prices.

That was a HEB Pantry store in LC, not the mother bear stores throughout Texas. A big bad one would do well anywhere.

Update in OP - Shoppers Value is buying 7 stores

For those of us in NOLA... what is this store like? I understand it's a cost-plus concept... but how are they?

They are not very great. Basically a large store version of a Dollar General.

Yup. So 15 stores sold today - looks like they are pulling out of SW LA and pulling out of the far burbs of NOLA.

I was really bummed when the Ralph's Market on Jones Creek turned to a Shopper's Value. It went from a really nice local store to a Mecca for the trashy. I pop in there very rarely for something quick due to convenience, and every time I do there's some bizarre ghetto-level shite going on.

I'm convinced that the cost-plus pricing is just a gimmick to trick morons that can't do basic multiplication.

Don't they (HEB) have Central Market under their umbrella. Central Market puts Whole Foods to shame. THere is one off I-30 in Ft. Worth....I forget the exit but it's right off the freeway

Exactly, Shopper's Value is not a place that I'd want to grocery shop at....Any latest on what's going to happen to the BR Winn Dixies?

WD has officially entered bankruptcy restructuring and posted a list of store closings. Only one in LA was in Mandeville.

So I think the BR stores - since they were not part of the Shoppers Value or Brookshire's/Super Foods deals... I assume they will continue as WD.

The Winn-Dixie on Jefferson Hwy across from the Jefferson Parish waterworks closed last week.
