HAhaha. My friend always calls it that as a joke and I guess it stuck in my head that way.

One of you locals should give your take on the gas station PO Boys down there. Forget the name. Really good shrimp/oyster po boy the one time I had it.

You are likely talking about Fayards. There are several, and you’re right they are delicious. Owners are great people too.

Quave brother poboys are great too. In Diberville

If you want something that would hold it’s own in decent US food city

The coast has some meh food which is sad considering it’s access to seafood.

Most love it. My husband likes their steak. I always get seafood and find everything is drowning in butter, which is not my liking. Plus, I’ve had it so much and their menu has remained the same for eternity, so I’m kind of just over it.

Recently went to Mignon’s for the first time in 10+ years and it was much better than mahoneys IMO.

Le bakery in Biloxi for breakfast or lunch. Have excellent turnovers and breakfast pastries. Hear people talk about their Bahn Mi sandwich but never tried it. Nothing special about the place itself but the food is legit.

The food over here is what the diners will support, seen many smarter restaurants fail when they try to push the boundaries.

Outside of shrimp and oyster season we don’t have any seafood joints with a fresh catch board. Really disappointed we don’t have boiled crabs available, as that’s something we should have.

Tony at a Trapanis used to have his commercial fishing license and would fish for his restaurant during the week. Probably didn’t save him any money.

Best we have for owner/chef in the kitchen is the Sycamore House.

Probably not but he would be fishing anyway.

Two restaurants on the coast that I dont see mentioned much but I like for good seafood are Hook's in Pass Christian and Steve's Marina in Longbeach. Not sure if it helps OP out a great deal but adding them for future searches.

Hook’s has a fresh fish board? Do they have the kitchen staff of the old Old Cuevas Bistro?

We usually take the golf cart out to dinner, so the Pass isn’t in the cards. Glad they mostly stopped the bridge road blocks. That really curbed Pass dinners.

Yep... As long as they are kept cold, and no red tide present, they are good to go.

I need to hit up Crystal Seas for a box then. The R month rule an old wives tale?

It was easier to keep them cold back in the day with less access to refrigeration and ice during winter months. Also there tends to be less sediment suspended in the water during winter months. Still perfectly fine to eat oysters during warmer months and I dont find any difference in taste.

The "r" is there basically because those are the months with higher salinity levels and cooler water temps. Oysters spawn(milky look and taste ) in warmer water.
