This is actually not entirely correct. The calories in pure alcohol is not easily retained as fat by the body. Instead it is burned as energy. Your body uses alcohol as the source of energy first, then only when the alcohol is gone will it switch back to burning fat/carbs storage. So the less carbs a drink as, the less likely hood of your body storing new fat tissue.
The way alcohol makes ppl fat is because most ppl eat when they drink. Or the have sugary mixed drinks. If it is a long drinking session and you're munching on snacks throughout, you're not burning those snack calories but storing most of it as fat until your body stops using alcohol as primary energy.

I don’t drink it or any other light beer for that matter, but people’s obsession with what other men drink is very strange to me.
Who gives a frick why it’s popular, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it

We went low carb/keto and tried to switch to ultra. Wife and I made it one 24 pack before we decided we would rather not drink than drink that crap.
Lite for me.
Lite for me.

It’s a curiosity thing. Ultra is the Crocs of the beer world. Just doesn’t seem to compute.

The way alcohol makes people fat is by adding liquid calories to their diet. Calories that can easily be over-consumed.
Alcohol calories are burned first before any other, but your body can only burn so many. If you take in more calories than you burn, the excess will be stored as fat...even if they are from alcohol.
You're right that it can lead to poor food choices as well, but you could get plenty fat eating carrots and drinking whiskey all day.

Come on Degas, don't try to tell us you never sat at the Drive in Movies with a cold NearBeer and a box of popcorn.

When it is that hot and you are out in the open with the sun bearing down, frozen piss goes down really easy, but I get our point. However when I'm finished with yard work and it's 95 and I'm dripping with sweat, my go to is Miller High Life.
Don't know why, but when I'm hot and full of sweat, no other beer does it for me

The only people I see drinking Ultra are uber douche bags and stupid vapid bitches. I'm convinced it is a "cool" thing to drink among a certain subset of people and that's it. No one could possibly REALLY like the taste.

Agreed, it's urine colored water.

The funny thing is, the carb Difference is basically negligible. Michelob ultra has 2.6 g of carbs vs Miller lite 3.2 g of carbs vs coors light 5 g of carbs.
If you are that worried about the 3 g of carb difference, you’re probably doing hardcore Keto and not drinking alcohol in the first place.
I don’t like michelob ultras popularity because it basically caused Michelob (heavy) to disappear, which was a good beer when we drank pitchers of it back in the day.

That's precisely what I'm saying, though your post now makes Ultra drinkers make far more sense

And if you are drinking enough beer to gain weight by that driver alone, you have a drinking problem, not a calorie problem.

Diabetic point of view. Michelob Ultra is easiest for blood sugar control among the cheap American low taste class of beers.

Adding to this story. The intermediate product between alcohol and the "combustion" products of CO2 and H2O is a poison (Acetaldehyde). Your body will work hard to keep the Acetaldehyde concentration below what it thinks is a safe limit.
This means: (1) Your body will "hold off" on breaking down any more alcohol until it can clear some of the acetaldehyde. The result is a buildup in your blood stream of alcohol and resulting drunkenness.
(2) Your liver will devote its resources to breaking down the acetaldehyde and getting it out the door. First through acetate (not much energy releases). The acetate can then re-enter the blood stream and get processed into energy by the cells.
Now, since your liver is 100% trying to get this poison out the door, it's not doing one of its basic functions - slowly releasing glucose into the blood stream for basal needs. This then becomes a holding point for your metabolism of proteins and fats, but not necessarily carbs.
Glucose, since it does not need to be broken down any further by the liver, can enter the blood stream just fine no matter what your BAC is. Your non-diabetic pancreas will send out insulin just correct and if you can't use that energy immediately it will start converting that glucose into fat stores. Many other carbs (non-fructose) will break down in the digestive system to glucose without requiring the liver to get involved, so things like starches will impact you the same way.

It has to be marketed towards women and college girls. The skinny cans that don’t fit in a normal koozie or yeti style koozie. The low carbs plastered on the ads and packaging.
My wife was never much of a beer drinker. She mainly drinks ultra. If we’re out of that and I happen to have some bud light or coors around she will drink that. She likes coors light the best of the other domestics. Every now and then I’ll get her to try a craft beer that I think she will like. She will drink half of it and give me the rest. The other night she asked me the calorie difference between ultra and bud light. It’s less than 10 per beer.
