I was using a Farberware opener that cut the lids from the side, which I prefer. However, it only worked well for about a year.

Any recommendations for a longer lasting opener that cuts from the side and not the top?

I prefer the top cut openers.

Walmart special for like $8. It's been a few years.

Swing Away has always worked for me. Looks like they can be had for around $8. Mine is at least 11 years old and still working fine.

We have this one and I really like it. We actually don't own and electric can opener.

I just bought an Oxo Good Grips can opener because my old cheap one crapped out. I haven't used the Oxo yet, but it got good reviews.

I can't find a can opener that will open the whole can at one time. It's like the cans they use now bend and won't allow it continue opening without me starting in a new spot.

Bought an electric one this weekend and can't wait to see how it does.

Looks similar to my pampered chef one. A girl my wife used to work with started selling that stuff. We bought some kitchen shears and a can opener. It cuts from the side, is very easy, and we've been using it several times a week for at least 7-8 years.

Swing-A-Way. Wall mounted or hand held. Smoothest I have ever used.

We went through several electric and manual over the years. We liked an Oxo Good Grips one, but it wore out.

I picked up a Kuhn Rikon, and now that is all we use. They leave a smooth, safe edge and have a pincer to lift the lid off with. Fairly cheap too.

Had this one going on 12 years and it still works pretty well. Can probably be had at Bed Bath and Beyond for $12-15 with a coupon.
