I’ve learned many on this board simply hate the popular mainstream companies. They always try to act like they are better because they use that one product, company, business, or restaurant that nobody else has discovered yet.

This thread is a great example. Instead of just saying they prefer another brand, they have to poo poo on the popular brand. FDL pizza is the same way. Instead of just saying they didn’t like the pizza, they try to convince you of how terrible the whole place is and you’re an idiot if you like it.

Truer words have never been posted. Say how much you like Mosca's or any decades old popular restaurant, the 'experts' will say it's overrated or terrible.

FAP SAM. You sure?

Actually, I’m positive. I’ve seen the Neilson reports for grocers and yes, they are always at the top of the local companies. I’ve also seen their processing floor and there’s no doubt they process twice as much as anyone else I’ve seen in Louisiana.

Manda is “popular” bc it’s cheap as hell and is used in bulk cooking for people who don’t care to serve shitty sausage in there big pot meals

Moscas seemed like a pretty terrible comparison. It’s certainly kind of a ‘love it or hate it’ type place, but it doesn’t really seem contingent on where you fall on the spectrum of culinary “expertise.”

I mean I love the place, but I know plenty of people whose food opinions I respect who don’t (and plenty others who do).

Manda’s products don’t seem held in high regard by people I know who know food.

I didn't mean to hijack this thread into a Mosca's discussion, however, I used to work a short distance from Mosca's in the 70-80's, so it was a frequent dinner spot. The only person I ever met who didn't enjoy it, was our CFO who was from rural Minnesota, he also thought vienna sausage were "too spicy".

I'd love to go back, but I'm old and can't drive at night, same for a lot of my geriatric friends, a trip to Mosca's from BR won't happen unless we rent a limo. Not a bad idea.

Yes, Manda's isn't a top-of-the-line product by any stretch, that wasn't the point of the poster I was quoting, his point was that some products are trashed on this board for reasons other than quality.

There will always be differences of opinion about food, that's why there are so many choices, but some good places regularly get trashed on FDB, Walk-On's for instance, Cane's, they are sure popular to a lot of people.

Bon appitit, mon ami.

Manda's

The Manda family has been a great neighbor to Baton Rouge. They have been very generous with donations to local charities, disaster relief, and fundraisers. IIRCC they take chances on people that have a difficult time re-entering society from incarcerations and rehab.. They provide education access for them as well.

You don't like their products, don't buy any. It's just like Miracle Whip.

One of the Mandas actually has an account here and came on the FDB once and we ribbed him pretty good. He was good-spirited and even laughed when we asked about their bone-in smoked sausage.

It's twice as good as the D sausage.

same here. Nobody has ever tasted my gumbo and said "man this is delicious...except I can tell you used Manda's or Savoie's"

Good for Veron's Sausage...originated in Lutcher, you know.
Went to crap at one time but has come back almost to what they were originally.

You're not wrong here, but the irony of Mr "frick what everyone else says a towel does nothing" saying it is not lost on me.

I didn’t say a towel does nothing. I said it’s best to use the insulation of the chest (for long rests) because the environmental temperature must equal out anyhow.

I don't mind Manda's overall but I can't remember the last time I bought it. I just prefer Veron's FROM THE VERON STORE in Lutcher.

I have nothing bad to say about the Manda family, don't know them. My point is ...in my opinion...their product is terrible.
