So I started a low carb diet 1/1. I’ve been eating grilled fish/chicken and veggies. It gets old quick. Looking for ideas for meals and especially snacks between meals or any tips in general. My Achilles heel are sweets. Love dessert. I started at 245 and am down 13 lbs so far. 195 is my target by Father’s Day. My kids are on me to lose weight

TIA

Update: Today being Father’s Day and my goal day. I’m down to 205. Ten pounds short of my goal but not giving up. Lost forty so feeling good about that. My focus this time was not dieting but changing my diet. Completely eliminated sugars and most carbs. Doing well overall and do not miss trash food much. I’m 63 and my metabolism is slower so the weight is slower coming off. Feel 100% better though.

Bacon and eggs for lunch or dinner is good.

Hamburger steak with cheese.

Cracklins are a good no carb snack. Pickles have no carbs. Bacon, bacon, bacon

I've found some Greek Yogurt with good macros. Even some flavored ones.

But I would recommend full fat greek yogurt with frozen fruit and chopped nuts/low carb granola.

Buy rotisserie chickens from Sam's club and add good chicken to everything. Fry the chicken up in olive oil and mix it afterwards with Frank's Red hot sauce to make a nice buffalo wing substitute. You can also add the buffalo chicken to cream cheese and make a great dip.

Replace a breakfast, lunch, or snack with a "Think!" brand keto protein bar. Some of those taste kind of like candy bars and are filling even though they are on the small side.

Buy the carb balance tortillas and make breakfast burritos or a wrap for lunch.

Low carb tortillas are very versatile.

1. Turkey/cheese/salami wraps
2. Grilled chicken Caesar wraps
3. Chicken/steak/shrimp quesadillas
4. Tortilla pizzas - great value pizza sauce has almost no carbs. Tortilla, pizza sauce, mozzarella, toppings and you have a fine low carb pizza.

One of my favorite low carb meals was pork chops in a garlic cream sauce. Google it.

Snacks for me were always boiled eggs, cheese, and pork skins.

As far as dessert, you are going to have a tough road ahead if you need sweets after a meal. The best advice I can give is to look for Keto cheesecake recipes. Also, there are a couple of Atkins low carb candies that are through the roof expensive for very small portions. I would advise you to try to find joy in a small bite of fruit after a meal if you need a sweet.

Are you doing Keto as in No carbs or are you just reducing carbs? Big difference.

I have been a a carb reduced diet since November. But I am not going completely keto. Probably 80% reduction or so. Just trying to have a diet that I can sustain long term. Cut out the fried foods and eat more veggies.

If you are near a Trader Joe’s their Whole Wheat tortillas are awesome. Only 9 carbs a piece. By comparison I checked some whole wheat tortillas (Mission brand maybe) at my local grocery and they were still 18 or 19 carbs each.

ETA: I also have a sweet tooth after meals. Get some Russell Stover sugar free chocolates. Still not healthy but I will grab one after dinner to kill my sweet tooth.

I am down 23 lbs so far. I mix a protein shake in the mornings and occasionally eat a boiled egg but usually just the shake. I keep some mixed nuts, lean jerky, and string cheese in my desk to munch on if I get hungry before lunch.

Oh and eat your dinner early, like before 6:00 pm.

First thing it can't be a diet, it has to be a permanent live style change on eating habits. Indulge occasionally but in moderate levels or small portions. It's ok to eat one or two meals a week with carbs at a friends house or restaurant. I was drinking a whole bottle of wine 2-3 nights plus rum on 1 or 2 other nights. Now I drink one small glass of wine, once or twice a week and a 1/2 shot of bourbon one night a week.

Snacks: boiled eggs, dill pickles, mix nuts, peanuts, pecans, strawberries, protein drinks but look at label some are low carb some are not. The equate brand at Walmart has 5g. The strawberries and chocolate protein drinks satisfy my sweet tooth.

meal: eggs and bacon, cheeseburger patties, rump roast, smothered cabbage, chicken or shrimp and occasional beef fajitas without tortillas. I put left over fajita fixings, boiled eggs, nuts etc. in salads.

When reading labels take note of serving size.

For a sweet dessert, mix peanut butter with cinnamon Greek yogurt in a food processor, then add vegan chocolate chips. Dip strawberries into it.

I do a lot of omelets for breakfast. Usually make a 8 egg omelet and divide it into 4 meals and save 3 in the fridge. Toppings can include cheddar, mushroom, asparagus, shrimp, ham, a little onion.

Turkey burgers can be good. I try to keep the fat content from getting ridiculous. Lots of chicken breasts and tuna and shrimp. Usually a big salad every day (often spinach since it lasts longer). Lots of asparagus. Mushrooms go great on the burgers or as a side dish.

Chicken breast topped with sugar free marinara, swiss, and parmesan is good. Similar can be done with Portobello mushrooms.

Snacks - Macadamia nuts, cream cheese, ham/swiss rollups.

Sweets - the only thing I've found is to mix ricotta cheese (fairly low carb) with fake sugar, almond extract, chopped almonds - not great but not bad.

I use Old English cheese spread (close to zero carbs) with cauliflower and/or broccoli.

Blue cheese is nice on salads/omelets.

No carb is very hard. Reduced/low carb is definitely sustainable though.

BBQ with vinegar sauce that isn’t loaded with sugar. Pork steaks. Wings. Salads. Veggies. Lots of avocados. Bowls with cauliflower rice. Nuts like almonds or pistachio’s.

Air fryer bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs are great.

Pork rinds for crunchy snack. Use popcorn seasoning or dry ranch to flavor them. Watch some of the prepackaged flavors, as the seasoning adds carbs.

Some of the Atkins snacks are pretty good for sweets, but still low carb. Swerve sweetener is made in New Orleans and is supposed to be very good, although I haven’t tried it.

Cream cheese is a great low carb binder for casseroles in place of Cream of XYZ soup. I’ve made cauliflower casseroles tons of different ways using whipped cream cheese- taco seasoning, broccoli and cheese, shrimp, chicken, etc.

Cabbage steaks are good and very filling. Topped with taco meat, cheese, salsa, sour cream, and it’s like a warm taco salad.

Heart of Palm Noodles or spaghetti squash are good pasta substitutes. Miracle noodles are good for Asian type recipes, but not good with red sauce.

If you get in a rut, have a cheat day. Sometimes your body needs a reset.

Mission low carb tortillas are really good. Ole’ is another good option. Both can be found at most grocery stores.

ETA: No Sugar Added Sweet Baby Rays is a whole lot better than G Hughes Sugar Free BBQ.

He's on the douchey side but Michael Symon has a book that's surprisingly good...Fix it with Food. Mrs Perple just got it.

And don't skip the exercise. You don't want to slow your metabolism and lose muscle. Bad combo.
