Wholesale distributors say the system works pretty well as it is
Distribution is actually a difficult and costly process. Most brewery owners that do a large amount of distribution will tell you that they couldn’t do it cheaper on their own. Trucks, labor and insurance to distribute state wide is very expensive.

100% true
my understanding is that for most small brewers the thing they want the most is to be able to transfer kegs to another location...ie: open a satellite brewpub where they can sell beer that they did not brew on premises

Well that’s all fine and dandy, and I’m sure 100% true. However, you should not be forced by government to go through a middle man to get your product on a store shelf or on a bar draft line.

Not to mention that on the retailer side the distributor can come in and say "in order to get X brewery's beer we are going to need to you by Y amount of Bud Light"

not to be argumentative (or support the distributor side) but what retailer that sells beer doesnt already carry bud lite?

Maybe its some new variety like tequila lime bud light or one of InBevs new craft beer acquisitions.

Sure. The retailer I happened to talk to about this only has 8 or so doors in their cooler and Mockler wanted more than 1 door of that space for exclusively Bud/Bud Light products not just Mockler products as a whole. Wasn't the vibe he want to go for.

I want to get into the craft brewery game but idk now. I'm confused as to how it all works

Brewniverse in Shreveport sells craft beers but does not carry any Bud, Coors, or Miller. You may see a Fat Tire or Yuengling there, but everything else is craft or imports. I’ve visited other craft stores that were the same.

This might happen some, but not nearly as much as you might think.

This I could not agree with more. And especially as someone else mentioned as to how a lot of breweries sign lifetime distribution contracts that they can’t get out of. I personally would benefit greatly from your quote. But, to the other point, I know for a fact Mockler turned down DDH Ghost kegs for the BR market because Parish only offered like 12 kegs and they thought it wasn’t worth the hassle. Ridiculous.. Mockler has the contract, so they’re only going to deal with what benefits them. All of the laws in this BS system are archaic. And I get way more fired up about laws related to alcohol than beer. It’s all archaic and no one in power cares.

Yes, yes it does.

This is exactly the kind of thing all of the “conservatives” in the Louisiana legislature should immediately get behind. But they won’t, because most of them aren’t.

absolutely but they do care because the whole economic and political ecosystem is set up around those archaic laws. It takes leadership to change something like that and we’ve not ever had that in the governor’s mansion. Same with cannabis

It’s about time. Best thing about California was the smaller breweries everywhere. You could get a decent burger/sandwich and drink fresh brewed beers.
Most of these places are friends with one another and have great revolving taps.
