Ive been to New Orleans over 20 times, but have never gone on a great food hunt. Keep in mind that I’ll have young kids.. so I’d like to avoid long lines as much as possible.
Beignets- is cafe du monde really the best?
Poboys- I really want to try Guys, but I’m open
Chargrilled oysters- hit me with it
Bananas foster- hit me with it

Any other suggestions are welcomed. Those are just my must haves. As far as beignets, I feel like I should give the kids the cafe du monde experience, but open to other ideas.
We plan on hitting the aquarium, zoo, and maybe ww2 museum while there also.

Parkway, Domilise’s; and r&o’s for Po-boys

Cafe du Monde and they have one in Metairie if you don’t want to fight the original one

Hansens snoballs, they take the saints rookies every year - kids will love it

Po boys I like Radosta’s in Old Metairie.
For beignets try Cafe DuMonde in City Park-there is a kids playground right next door for your kids.
Oysters-Drago’s is basically near the aquarium.

Nothing wrong with Guy’s at all, but I wouldn’t seek it out. Very small dining room, and it takes them a while to get the sandwiches out. In that area Domilise’s or maybe even Tracey’s might be better.

If you’re in the FQ, CDM is where to go for beignets.

Arnaud’s for bananas foster.

Agreed. Don’t sleep on Crabby Jacks.
Cafe 615 in Gretna is also amazing.

Take them to the one in City Park it’s literally next to a giant playground

Hansens snoballs

Absolutely the best.

Chargrilled oysters

Dragos are the best but ACME in Metairie is easier and casual with kids

This is the correct answer. Never all that crowded unless a tour bus or two shows up.
Kids can play, feed the ducks, etc. they have a nice mini golf set up out there as well.

Eat this in the morning then after y’all work up and appetite for lunch, got to R&Os for the best roast beef poboy.

One should almost never stand in line for a restaurant.

They are all the same. Go to the one in City Park with young kids. They will LOVE that. Can’t stress that enough. Obviously don’t go to the one in Metairie

Poboys: Parkway, Domilise. guy’s is good

Chargrilled: well Dragos are still the best but everything else there sucks balls

I would do Parkway for the poboy (shrimp or roast beef)

then go to Angelo Brocatos for dessert. Spumoni, cannoli, tiramisu, cookies, cakes, coffee, they have it all.

CDM in city park is solid, Metairie location works if your in the area on Vets

Oysters - Casamentos and Cochon (fire wood smoked) are the real deal

Some other/non-traditional ideas:
-Stein’s Deli, Francolini’s
-La Boulangerie, Levee Bakery
-Miss Shirley’s (Chinese)
-Saba, Shaya
-Creole Creamery
-Muffuletta (Central Grocery?)
-Bourre for a daiquiri

City Park beignets will work the best with the kids, as mentioned

Call in at Parkway for poboys and save the wait time

One idea to knock a few of your options out at once is to drive to Algiers Point, take the short walk from the ferry to eat at Drago’s at the Hilton for charbroiled oysters, then hit the Aquarium before taking the ferry back and then finish at Barracuda for queso/guac/tacos/margaritas while the kids play on the playground next door (depending on ages of course)

NOLA with kids can be done easily and very well if you know where to look

Not so fast my friend. Their lobsters are remarkably well priced. That’s pretty hard to Ef-up.

Chargrilled oysters and a lobster…. Bottle of white… nice evening.

To be a broken record - CDM in City Park is awesome especially with kids

I would never go the FQ again for it

If you are at the aquarium, you are within walking distance of Drago’s at the Riverside Hilton and the Cafe Du Mende in the Riverwalk mall is right there which as others have said, is as good as any.

When my kids were small they always enjoyed macaroons and gelato from Sucre’. There is one on Magazine on your way to the zoo, and now one on Royal in the FQ. Bring your wallet.

ETA My mind does stupid stuff sometimes.
