Group of guys might be taking out a buddy this weekend. Probably won't join them for the day stuff so I thought I'd buy them a nice bottle of whiskey for the evening.

The guy i know likes Koval but I wanted to get something that we hadn't had before.

Buy a handle of basil haydens small batch for $60 and call it a night.

Edit: $50 whiskey is a broad term tbh.

You looking for a quality fifth between some guys for $50? Or are you looking for as much as you can get for $50 (staying in a decent range obviously).

I drink well whisky and rum mixed drinks a lot of the time lol. Can't afford the nice stuff too often. I personally don't mind sipping on Scotch when it's available but I'm the only one I know who can.

I drink bullet sometimes.

I drink knob creek when it's available.

But we're definitely looking for nicer sipping whiskey with cigars after a night of celebrating.

The grocery store didn't have great selection and most I hadn't heard of in the $50 price range. Might have to find a liquor store.

Anyone know anything about Jefferson's Reserve? That seemed to be in the price range at both stores I check ode out earlier

Try specialty grocery stores like Calandro’s/Rouse’s or a liquor store. Look for store picks, juice that had been bottled from a barrel that the store hand picked. Makes it unique.

Don’t care for Jefferson myself.

You baws in here just got out of college or something?

For around $50 I would go with Four Roses small batch. Such an awesome bottle. It also has range so those who don’t drink as often won’t find it harsh.

$50 is a Nebulus range for whiskey. Some good ones and some overpriced stuff as well. I would say at that price oint the best buys are Blantons (good luck finding any), Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (also hard to find at times), Stagg Jr. can be found and mich underated cause early batches were not good. I would just get either Eagle Rare or EH Taylor Small batch at about $30-40 and keep the change anything you buy at $50 wont be any better.

Jefferson's Reserve is a smoother (sweeter) drink, so if its after a night of drinking and you will be smoking cigars, might be a good match.

If you're willing to try a scotch, you can get a Laphroaig 10 in that price range.

If it would be me, I'd give them a bottle of Eagle Rare and a bottle of Glenlivet and call it a day.

Eagle rare is a bourbon in the $30/fifth range and can be consumed neat or mixed.

Glenlivet is a single malt scotch in the $35 range and should be consumed neat or with water/ice.

Irish Whisky - Readbreast 12 - $65/fifth. Should be consumed neat or with water/ice.

Blantons or Angels Envy. Blanton's can be difficult to find, but that would be my top choice if you can.

This was the most disappointing bottle I've ever bought... just meh flavor with no complexity at all.

For what you are looking for four roses single barrel will fit the bill and come in just under what you want to pay.

Also, for the price I think the oakiness of a woodford double oaked would go well with tobacco...but you gotta really like oak..most think it's too much.

Last recommendation is blantons if you can find it...the two above should be no issue to find.
