Cant begin to tell you how many times I burned my mouth on their little hot apple or cherry pies. The inside of those things was like volcano magma.

This is my understanding of why the change was made.

Costs probably played into, but the switch was made in the mid to late 80's for health reasons.

all of this and no mention of their fries?

The fries lost their magic long ago. Besides, tots are better.

Once a Mcfrie goes cold it's inedible. Tots though. Well they're still good cold.

Dang, I never realized they were using beef fat in the oil after they switched to vegetable oil years ago.

Popeyes fries everything in beef fat. Chicken, fries, apple pies, shrimp.. definitely makes a difference

I don't drink soda but there are people who swear by their coke products

LINK

Is this all true? I've had co workers who go there for lunch just to get a coke and grab food somewhere else

I've always heard their Coke is a special formula just for McDonald's, but never researched that claim. It doesn't taste any different to me. I like Chick Fil A's Coke better anyway because it comes out of the machine already cold and doesn't melt the ice.

I celebrate their entire breakfast menu. I refuse to eat there after 10:30am though. I don’t enjoy anything from their lunch menu. Except their fresh prepared French fries. I am not prepared to go there just for their fries though.

Despite the vegetable oil being worse for you?

Two McDoubles and two small fries used to be a go to cheap lunch for me. Think I could get that for less than $5.50.
They have a solid breakfast. My move is to get a sausage egg and cheese biscuit and a sausage biscuit, then add the patty to the sausage egg and cheese.

Americans aren't the smartest when it comes to diets. I don't remember the specifics, but in the late 80's there was a lot of coverage on saturated fats vs unsaturated fats. Around that time it was reported McDonald's used animal fat for their fries and there was some public backlash, and they switched to vegetable oil, which at the time was considered to be healthier.

I like to get a Big Mac every now and then. I enjoy it for what it is.

Fries obviously

Hashbrowns are always on point. Do they already put these on their sandwich? They should. I could add a hashbrown layer to any McD's sandwich and it would be delicious.

The Big Mac is the only burger I eat with cheese. Something about it just works.
