Or is this like Deano's?

quote:

KOK Wings & Things, a Lafayette-based restaurant that specializes in chicken wings, fried fish and fully loaded fries, is set to open its first Baton Rouge location this summer in Electric Depot.

KOK will go into a 4,300-square-foot stand-alone building behind Boru Ramen, said Tre’Jan Vinson, chief marketing officer. About 50 to 60 employees will work at the restaurant, which will be open seven days a week.

It looks really good. The location they are picking is kind of weird. Sort of behind another building off Government. Not much visibility.

They picked a really weird location for Baton Rouge. I don't even think there is parking there.

But if it's like Pluckers but less student-focused but also not completely sketchy....it might do really well.

Electric Depot.

I thought this was a hipster place before the pandemic. When did they start eating chicken wings?

Tons of parking at the Electric Depot. Lots on both sides. Keep the prices high to help with the clientele.

When you revitalize a place like mid city, you better go HAM and do it fast. If you don't, your investments basically turn into an expensive playground for the folks who caused you to have to revitalize the place.

It’s on university across from the UL Dorms. In between Johnston and McKinley. I’ve heard the food is good. It’s always busy.

KOK wings has a place in Franklin - I’m pretty sure location doesn’t bother them much.

Eta- the wings are pretty solid. They’ve got a bunch of random sauces that are their thing.

I've had it once or twice, wings were pretty decent, their sauce names make absolutely no sense though so it's a wild guess on what flavors any of this stuff is supposed to be.

When patrons can't eat dinner without their car getting broken into or getting robbed on the way out it will matter. If they are by the university in Laffy it was a weird call to pick Gov St and not someplace by LSU.

It's really good. Not really a "sit down" kind of place. I've eat their food 3 times since they've opened and always gotten takeout as the inside doesn't look kid friendly.

Risky click of the day

The flavors sound good though based on the descriptions on the website

Judging from their location, I think they are probably going to be focusing on door dash or Waitr, then doing an outdoor dining thing when there are concerts or events at the Electric depot place.

If I were opening a new wing restaurant (which I wouldn't do now with supply shortages) with a bunch of TVs for sports games, I'd want it to be visible from Government street, and probably farther down towards Foster in mid city. Or maybe even downtown near one of the hotels or closer to LSU on Highland Perkins.

It's near McKinley. I'm sure it's not much of a stretch from there to this new location.

I heard a wing place from Lafayette was looking at the old newks location by campus but things hit a snag..not sure how they would compete with Buffalo Wild Wings ..blue store and another new wing place past aster that just opened.
