If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I'm not a big fan of the food, but after a few drinks I can find something on the menu to eat. It wouldn't be my first choice (I go often due to wife's friends), but there are worse places to hang out.

Arguably the best resturant in the entire state.

You are either trolling or went to STM. The food at LaFondas is garbage.
They cut the alcohol in the margartias by half about 5 years ago, bc the F-250 "Dude,Bruh" crowd started getting drunk and fighting in the resturaunt.

Like I said, a bunch of folks have this "real need to be seen" complex

Dead on, This is the same reason they are jacking up the proces at Tsunami. They know that people are still going to come in the door to be seen.

that place is really strange. ate there a couple weeks ago my first time in Lafayette. It's like they try to be upscale with the servers' attire and table cloths, and then they serve mostly shite mexican food.

I got a burrito that was actually pretty good, but it wouldn't be tough to replicate it.

The Mexican food there is awful, as many others have said, it's a place to be seen and get drunk. The fried rabbit isn't bad.

I went for the first time ever about 2 months ago, I agree, the place is kind of odd. Looks like the inside and the patrons probably haven't changed in 30 years or more. Both times I've gone the restaurant and bar have been packed with waits for tables, they're making a ton of money so they see no motivation to change a thing regardless of the food reputation. The atmosphere was loud as hell and I always felt like I don't belong, most likely because I don't.

Salsa was good and I liked the bean dip but it's served in a tiny bowl about the size of a shot glass.
Margaritas were the best I've ever had, I had heard about them but chalked it up to Lafayette folklore, they deliver. $5 as well, I expected them to be higher priced.
Both times I've gone by the time I get the food I could care less what it tasted like but don't recall it being anything memorable. There's certainly alot better Mexican food in Lafayette.

I've enjoyed the shining hooks you display in these sorts of threads. Might be a bit too shiny, though.

Why change? don't you keep going there year after year but complain about it?

My question is why with all the money they are making won't they hire a good chef to change the menu and have food that is actually good?

Better chef will cost more money which means less profit. That place is packed as it is, and they could probably even drop the food quality further and not lose any headcount. Its been like this for probably 40 years.

Ever heard the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

I've lived in Lafayette since 1987, after moving here from NOLA -> BR -> Laffy

Been to LaFonda's maybe 3 times as that crowd, atmosphere, and food is not my cup of tea.

BTW, I miss Pancho's AYCE buffet

We used to go to the LaFonda's on Airline every weekend (my mother's father took her every weekend when she was young). It was such a sad day when it closed.

Fully loaded burrito; order of flat cheese enchiladas (I loved that chili).

On special occasions, I would get the Acapulco Dinner.

Highly overrated IMO. Much like Tsunami downtown, just a place to be seen.

First of all, it's La Fonda (no 's' on the end as many would have you believe). Second of all, there are plenty of good things on the menu. For example, the tuna steak, Don Briggs special, kabobs, ribeye, fried chicken, Santa Fe enchiladas, and my favorite- Alphonse's double chop. It's one of the best pork dishes I've ever eaten. Just gotta know what to get

Totally agree with you. I was brought there by a friend and he told me exactly what to order and not order. Since then I've gone numerous times and always had a great time. The tuna steak there is the best in Lafayette/BR area
