The quick details as you salivate before lunch:

If you are not in the Atlanta area, don’t expect to grab “Beyond Fried Chicken.” KFC is calling this a test at one location in Smyrna, Ga.

Said test kicks off August 27.

Both nuggets and boneless wings are available. A six-piece or 12-piece combo meal (includes a side and a drink) will set you back $6.49 and $8.49, respectively. This is a decent discount to KFC’s normal prices for each combo, likely to drive trial of the product among consumers. For instance, a 12-piece boneless chicken tender combo at KFC is about $12.99.

Beyond Meat nor KFC disclosed the calorie counts or ingredients of the plant-based chicken. But Beyond Meat’s grilled chicken contains about 20 ingredients — the main one being pea protein.

Along with a myriad of processed oils. I have no problem with places offering these alternatives, but the fact that they often market them as "healthy" is laughable at best.

Absolutely nothing. Obviously they feel there is a market for plant based fast food. As does Burger King. They are testing it in a small market. It either shows promise and they explains production or it doesn’t and they scrap the idea.

What I hate about Beyond Meat is that it's misleading and not as healthy as they make it seem

Other than increased health problems from eating that processed crap.

It’s a fast food joint . Everything. Is processed. This just gives an option for people that do t eat meat for ethical reasons not health reasons which is the majority of vegans.

Except that one of Beyond Meat's primary promotional talking points is providing a "healthy alternative". That's the business angle for the fast food partnerships.

There is and that market is growing. I just don’t understand why companies are concentrating on creating imitation chicken instead of using existing vegetarian food. Why doesn’t KFC offer falafel, for example.

People are always going to compare imitation meat to the original and it will never live up to their expectations.

Because despite what you say in your first sentence, the market is not growing fast enough. The only way for them to hit longer-term, sustainable growth is to cut into the meat eating segment. They way to do that is to develop imitation meat.

I'll never eat this

Nonetheless, for some reason plant and chemical mashup fake chicken grosses me out less than McDonalds and other fast foods processed mashup "real" chicken.

If your goal is to get people to eat more vegetarian food wouldn’t a better strategy be to offer vegetarian food that tastes good, instead of imitation meat that people will always compare to actual meat and be disappointed by?

Millions of dollars in venture backing and some very smart investors believe otherwise, but they're not omniscient. Maybe you should start your own company that pursues this course of action.
