And I, II, or III? No budget. Will be smoking a lot

I smoke a few times per month.
I have a Big Joe II and love it. I've done 2 butts and a spatchcocked turkey on it at the same time.
Its quite efficient with good coal and a controller.
Brisket and Butt with room to spare

Nice damn set up. It smokes well?

Thanks, I built the stand because I wasn't about to pay what they wanted for a stand that big, and I had a slab of cypress laying around and the stacked stone left over from renovating the living room.
No one has ever complained
But yes, it does its job very well.

I bought the Big Joe II at the beginning of lockdowns a couple years ago. I am very happy with it and would stick with the II over the III if I was buying today.

Why the II over the III? Seems like a lot of people are saying the III is a lot better, especially for smoking
(I have no idea if that's true or not.)

Were they on sale when you looked? Nothing outside of a simple stand for mine was less than a grand. What I built was around $5K to buy. I bought 2 cabinet doors, some concrete board, a few 2x4's and 6 casters for <$300. The rest of the materials were leftovers

I don’t see a lot of value in the slow roller that is offered as standard with the III. I do think the III has a better stand with the bottom shelf but I prefer storing my accessories in a drawer/cabinet rather than in the open.
Value wise I think the II is better but if delivery is the same for both and money is not a factor then you can’t go wrong with the III.

II smokes great? Or do I need to buy extra accessories for it to smoke well?

It seems like you want a smoker

I am sitting here on my back porch babysitting a pork butt on my vision pro. I love it but if I were to do it again, I would have gotten the classic. The only reason I say this is because the nice temp holding accessories all fit the sliding bottom port on the classics. None fit my pro. So I have to babysit my pit when I smoke meats on it.
That being said, that is the fun of it to me.
If money is no object, AND space is no object, absolutely without question get the biggest one you can find. The classic can easily hold two butts or two spatchcocked chickens or 2 racks of ribs or one whole brisket. The bigger size can do much more.
You will love either.

Oh, and it smokes and grills beautifully as is. You will want a deflector plate setup for smoking though. If you can buy one with that already, by all means do.

I just ordered and received a Classic 1 that I got for $450 during Black Friday sales. Gen 2 is around $1100
Gen 1 & 2 both have the same ceramic shells . Gen 2 has a better control vent and seal (both can be upgraded in the Gen 1) the air hinge is the only thing that can’t be upgraded

You won’t regret it. Make sure you have three or four of your manliest friends there when you put it together. It will weigh about 600 lbs.

I was in the same boat and ordered the 3. I hear the slow roller works pretty well. I also like the fact that it is 4" taller, so there is more room for airflow. The more airflow the better, and one of the reasons food tastes so good off offsets.

I see another post where you mentioned going with the II, I think you will be pleased. The only extra accessories I consider a must have for smoking that isn’t included with the II is a good instant read thermometer and a probe thermometer with temp controller/fan.
I use the ThermoWorks Thermopen (or Thermopop) and the ThermoWorks Signals with Billows fan. My II will easily hold 250°F for 14-16hrs.
All that said, I recently picked up an offset smoker on side of the road and rehabbed it for fun. The bark on a brisket cooked over a straight oak fire for 14hrs is incredible and I haven’t been able to replicate it on the Joe but I just don’t have the time to babysit the offset very often. I can fire up the Kamado before bed and sleep easy knowing it will remain steady all night. My offset requires attention every 30/45 minutes.
The Kamado is 10x more versatile, smoking ribs/butts/etc, grilling/searing, high temp pizzas, baking, and the rotisserie you got is awesome. I like having both but if I had to choose one it would be the BJII without a doubt.
