Hey, I'm going to Jacque-imo's with some friends for dinner tomorrow night. I know to expect a long wait so I'll hang by the bar for a while. What do y'all recommend to eat there? besides the alligator cheesecake b/c we are getting that for sure. Any suggestions would be great. TIA.
I know some people aren't fans. I've never been and I heard it's good and is a fun place. Let me know. thanks.

Always liked the quail entree for sure.
Do yourself a huge favor, though, and have a light lunch. You will be glad you did.

I know people write reviews such as this about the place:
So yeah.. the alligator cheesecake is pretty popular.
I don't make it a point to get over there too often .. just not my favorite style of food. But blackened redfish and the rabbit are both quite good.

Oh, I don't want to be addicted to a place where the dishes and drinks can run a po' grad student like me into food debt. Yes, that's a real thing. I have a lack of willpower, especially when it comes to ALLIGATOR AND SHRIMP CHEESECAKE! In fact I have a message for this dish: Don't talk so dirty to me, cheesecake... Jesus, we're in a room full of people and you get all dressed up with your creamy goodness, and you know I can't resist! What's wrong with you? NOTHING, that's what. I will dream of you and lick the plate when no one is watching, but that's it! This is only going to happen once every now and again. I'm not an addict, you dirty dirty tasty dish.
Everything else is good too. Damn.

AMAZING Alligator Cheese Cake!
Alligator Cheese Cake! This is a "once-in-a-life-time" dish. Amazing! Savory cheesecake like no other I have ever tasted. It bewilders me how there are so many "Louisiana Style" restaurants in Los Angeles, but that none even come close to food like this!
If you are visiting New Orleans..YOU MUST EAT HERE! If you live in New Orleans, You are soooooo Lucky!

Just remembered about the deep fried roast beef po-boy...I'd recommend sharing that one. Once you see it, you'll know why.

thanks guys.
I'll def check out y'alls recommendations. I might be taking a co-worker to Boucherie for lunch so maybe I'll go to Boucherie another day.

I hear ya, but if you want to have a fun night, I still say that JI's plus the Maple Leaf is tough to beat.

If you've been to Jacqueimos before, I'd agree with BlackenedOut.
If one has never been (as the OP indicated), it's worth at least one visit.
ETA, I really don't like that alligator cheesecake dish, though.

It is an incredibly expensive meal. Shockingly expensive for cafeteria food. How anyone really needs to experience that once is beyond me. Go to Boucherie twice. You'll spend less, eat better food, and have just as fun a time afterwards at Maple Leaf.

It's OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced, but there are a few items that are really good like the cheesecake. I also enjoyed the paneed rabbit.

Agreed. It's almost 20 bucks for a small portion of fried chicken, whereas Elizabeth's in Bywater give you damn near half a chicken for less

I have to be honest, it's probably been at least 8 or 9 years since I've eaten there.
They must have really gone up in their prices, because I don't recall it being real expensive back then.

i dont find it expensive..entrees are around $20 but they come w/ a good starter salad and two sides....there apps are for sharing, when go, the bill is around 80$ w/ a couple of sazeracs (they make a damn fine one). its not the best food in the city by a long shot but im glad its here b/c it serves a purpose that not too many othr places fill
