Some folks on my pier are planning an Italian night dinner and everyone is encouraged to bring a dish. I could cook up some sausage and peppers or spaghetti but that would be pretty ordinary.

Does anyone have some sort of Italian casserole recipe or something else that I can take to the party?

Thanks in advance.

If it doesn't have to be a main dish Caponata is great.

Make some fresh pasta dressed lightly with butter, basil, and roasted cherry tomato.

Baked Ziti and Meatballs

Use your favorite meatball recipe, and a good jar of marinara, like Rao’s, ricotta, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and ziti noodles.
Boil the ziti noodles two minutes shy of al dente and in a lightly greased large casserole dish, layer the noodles, then meatballs, then red sauce, ricotta mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, top with more noodles, then sauce and a final layer of cheese, and top with Parmesan and bake at 350 until top is brown and bubbly.

Love the caponata idea. Easy, can be served warm or cold. Side dish or appetizer served with some crusty bread.

Also thought of a hunk of Gorgonzola cheese, drizzled with honey and scattered with walnuts.

If OP bakes, focaccia is easy and always popular.

Meatballs in marinara- doesn’t need to be served with pasta, braciole, or breaded chicken or steak cutlets with amagio sauce.

Great idea! Here's a recipe I used, but there are more simple one's out there.

FSWY White Bread with 80% Biga

Total: 1,000 g white AP flour, 750g water, 24g sea salt, 2.64g instant dry yeast

Biga: mix 800g flour. 544g 85° water, and .64g (3/16 tsp) of ADY, let rest for 12-14 hours until roughly tripled in size

Bulk: Combine, 200g flour, 206g 105°water, 24g fine sea salt and 2g yeast together, add bugs, let and combine thoroughly. Let rest for 2.5-3 hours folding 2-3 times in first 1.5 hours

Divide, shape into 2 right rounds, and proof.

I baked one as a boule after 1 hour of hour of proving, but let the second round over prove for 2 hours total or so.

Spread EVOO lightly on half baking sheet with a bit of salt, put the dough on the pan, cover with 1/3 cup of EVOO, and spread dough into the corners using your fingertips to dimple. Add desired toppings.

Bake 12-15 minutes until light browned and cooked through.

Panzanella salad. Or a fresh mozzarella app with basil, tomato and a local fresh fruit (peaches, figs, pears, etc).
