intresting...both points.

ok i guess i'm looking for knobs on the front now :)

It's all in how you cook and what conveniences are of interest to you, personally. Those were very important to me. It really was like getting more space. When the stovetop isn't in use, it makes for great space. Also consider cleaning the stovetop. I wanted easy cleanup. I didn't want to be raising a stovetop to clean drips that got through under it like my other one. What a PITA.

I also checked with my appliance guy to make sure I bought one they are able to service, if necessary. I looked at one that would have required an out of town service company and that wasn't going to work with me.

I knew I wanted the indoor gas grill. That was a big deal. I'd had an electric grill and griddle in my old one. Never used it. It sucked and I have cast iron griddles I use if I want a griddle, which work so much better with the flush burners.

If you like to cook and plan on using your stove top frequently, give it a lot of thought and remember you're probably planning on keeping this a long time unless you're going to move again soon. I spent more because this was important to me. I have a great exhaust that sucks up smoke like crazy, even when the grill flames. I think it's a kitchen aid also.

I have a BlueStar with unsealed burners, which gives better heat and is easy to clean and I really like it. The oven was problematic at the beginning, fine now, two years in. If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten a BlueStar cooktop.

Wolf is in the same price range as Dacor and BlueStar, so add 'em to your list.

countertops are corian and i'm not sure about cutting them to replace the existing.

here's a pic of the kitchen and where its going. it looks like the 'rangetop' might require additional work.

we're going to be remodelling that kitchen but not right away. i want that electic cooktop gone ASAP but maybe it makes more sense to be patient & install a rangetop.

gris has me convinced

she has some sound logic and some of her points are things that annoy me about my current gas range now.

so features i didnt know one page ago i wanted but it seems gris' has it all

- level burners
- easy clean up
- grill (i see those aluminum sheets with the little holes in it!)
- drawer knobs

is it fairly easy to install a rangetop? its just about cutting space for it and mounting it right?

The countertops are only part of the issue; the existing vent hood will be woefully insufficient for a higher-output cooktop. So unless your budget allows for hood replacement, you might not want to look at higher BTU units.

Nice backyard! Putting in a rangetop vs a cooktop shouldn't involve much beyond cutting out an appropriate sized opening in the countertop and perhaps taking out the drawers (or false drawer fronts) below the current cooktop. Since the rangetop has front knobs, it will overhang into the area occupied by the drawer fronts.

i'm way ahead of myself on showing off pics of the house as the contract is not a done deal. still have inspections, etc. pending.

i apparently have no self-control and am already pricing appliances.

gotcha.

well i can assure you there's nothing in those drawers yet.

we're looking to stain the cabinets more of a darker/espresso color which will look better with the stainless.

hell i don't even have the propane line run behind the counters yet. i think it only services to the water heater, hvac and pool right now.

You'll need an exhaust to handle the cooktop you buy. If you get a gas grill, you'll need a strong exhaust. My contractor recommended mine to handle the grill and since I cook in large quantities. It's a Kenmore, as well, and terrific. It's the same size in the stovetop. I think mine is 36 inches. My cabinets were all there so we didn't change anything on the cabinets. we removed the fake drawer fronts. As HO said, the knobs will hang over the bottom cabinets. There's sort of shelf there which I also love. I had a 36 inch before this one.

I have double ovens in a wall. I didn't look for your ovens, but I recommend double ovens and a size that fits large baking sheets. Mine are large, but they've been there forever and I don't recall what size.

I would do whatever you're going to do with the kitchen all at once and take your time considering it. I looked a good while and considered a lot of things. I have no regrets.

Your home is very nice!

Nice view brah. I like that back yard.

I have a broan hood. E64000 I think. It is plenty strong. It requires a vent to the roof. Be careful pricing hoods as some don't include the blower fan. It hs to be purchased separately.

How long have you had that hypotheory? Any problems?

At 1/2 the price of comparable rangetops this seems like a no brainer at $1400.

I give up the grill but outside of the kitchenaid Gris has very few seem to offer that feature.

Gris what do you think of this form? 6 burners, even surface and knobs on the front.

Linked rangetop LOOKS good, but the specs matter more than the appearance, if you're a cook. Does it have a simmer burner, ie, one with a very low BTU output? Does it have removable grates to accomodate a wok? (might not matter to you) What's the highest BTU output burner? Can you get a range of BTU output burners configured to your liking? Sealed or unsealed burners?

Dig into the details on it...

whats the adv/disadv of sealed vs unsealed burners? i know the ones on my GE i take the metal plate off to clean it and the little sparker dude is left attached to the sheet metal bottom.

also, for cleaning..i'm curious about gris' comment about how much easier her range is to clean but i'm not sure i understand why.
