Never made any sense to me.

We cut a head of ice Berg in quarters. Put some toppings on it and dressing and charge $15. Lol
At least make it a salad. I have to cut it myself.
Generally when someone recommends one, I discount every other opinion on food that person has.

I love a good wedge salad, though I’m not paying a premium price unless it’s topped w shrimp or something special. But I don’t usually think about whether a menu item requires great technical skills to produce in determining its deliciousness. I’m aging for service, ambiance, etc.....not just tech skills and ingredients.

A good bleu cheese wedge is fantastic. Luckily I’ve never been to a place that charged $15 for one.

I love’em too. For me, the premium price isn’t the slice of the lettuce - but the quality of the toppings - imparticularly the dressing.

I will pay a premium for such.... and typically ask the waiter as I order, which is made in-house. A lot of times, they are even honest! Ha

They always seem more fresh than a regular iceberg salad, and they’re definitely more crisp since you get a cross section of the head. With some toppings it makes for a nice lunch salad. Id rather an app or a soup for dinner though.

A wedge salad is served by someone too cheap and lazy to make a real salad.

The markup on something like that salad is insane.

In today's paper Rouses has a pull-out advertising their specials and a head of iceberg lettuce is $.38 a lb. and you know restaurants aren't paying close to that price.

Toss on some bleu cheese, some other toppings and charge 1500% more than they have in it. Tidy profit.

Love a good wedge. The blue cheese, candied bacon, purple onion & tomatoes make magic! I often order one and ask them to split it for the wife and I.

I thought of this when talkin steakhouses and I found that most loved particular wedge salads. But it's a quarter head of lettuce with some dressing and toppings.
Idk. If I am paying for a salad I want it tossed.

I think Acropolis in Metairie makes the perfect meal salads. (don't want to talk too good about the place or the 5 course $19 dinner as it's packed enough) I gladly pay $9-13 or more for that. It's just when it's a piece of iceberg (you know the cheapest most common lettuce) (IS romaine edible yet?) with usually some premade dressing it's not a salad, and it's not good.

While I agree the pricing is absurd bordering on criminal, I love a cold wedge with blue cheese. Simply, and quite refreshing. But yes, it is insanely overpriced.

Long Lidge the Wedge Salad, America's Silliest salad.

actually looks good

So in reading on this in trying to defend my stance I actually found that the price is due to the cost of higher end blue cheeses. I like a good bleu, so maybe I am missing something.

Though I'd rather a good bleu on a Cobb salad.

If you like a good Cobb, Truck Farm Tavern has a nice grilled shrimp Cobb.

Salads in general are overpriced.

But, most food is much cheaper if cooked at home.

I think since the person eating has to do "all the work" to cut up the salad, that it makes it seem like a bad deal.

That looks like a pile of dogs vomit with an onion ring on top.
