Southern Classic Chicken is set to open the first of three Baton Rouge locations in the next nine months after a local developer bought a South Sherwood Forest Boulevard restaurant building.
The Shreveport-based fried chicken chain will move into the space at 3410 S. Sherwood Forest, said Donnie Jarreau. Jarreau’s SSF Holdings LLC bought the property last week for $550,000. The seller was Giovanni Mucciacciaro Enterprises LLC of Baton Rouge. Mark Hebert of Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate represented the seller.
Southern Classic plans to demolish the existing building and open a corporate-owned restaurant in the location in the next seven to nine months, Jarreau said.
It’s the first of three locations the chain plans to open locally. A property on Florida Boulevard is under contract and should open within the next year, while the company also is looking for a spot on Plank Road.

It’s good. Gonna put Popeyes out of business.

To be honest, I like it better than Popeye's. I only eat fried once a month though, but when I choose a place to eat, it's SC. Rest of the times I fry something myself.

They are definitely good. It is neck and neck for me.

It is very good If they can maintain the level of service here that they have in NLA, they will be very successful

It's our chicken of choice. I just wish one were closer.

It's even better than 1990-era Popeye's. 2024 Popeye's is a sad cautionary tale.

Southern Classic is very good in my opinion. One of my highlights when headed to Toledo Bend.

Southern Classic had me driving 20 miles each way when I lived on the north end of Toledo Bend in the woods. Popeye’s I would stop and pick up if it was along my way. SC I would go out of my way for.
What SC needs to be really top of the market is a signature side or dessert or a unique bread. What they have is good it just doesn’t have any “grab”.

years ago one of my wife's friends married into the family that owns southern classic. I made a to go bag of chicken at the reception. the bags where for candy at a display on the way out. You know its good when you sneak it out of a wedding reception.

I went to one and had some good sweet corn grits as a side.

Is very good. When we first bought a store in Natchitoches on Texas St, there was a SC just a few blocks down. I’d try to limit myself to once a week, lol
