Is "dipped" chicken the next fad?

So of course Nashville "hot" chicken was the latest fad but there's one I like much better: dipped chicken. I had it in Memphis at Uncle Lou's and it was absolutely scrumptious. Basically it's fried chicken dipped in a mixture of honey, hot sauce, vinegar, and spices. Not that it means anything, but Guy Fieri chose it as the best thing he ever ate. I'm surprised that no one else has picked up on it yet. Uncle Lou's sells their sauce which was renamed "Sweet Spicy Love" by Fieri.

They got a version of that at "Southerns" in Lafayette. IMO, it aint all that.

Was it out of bounds?

So, basically hot wings, but the whole chicken?

It was the official basketball of flavortown. That's why you dunk it.

No, this tastes much different from hot wings. It's a thinner, sweet yet spicy sauce. Hard to describe, but it's very tasty.

I hope so. My family has been doing this as long as I can remember.

Your picture isn't working. Is this chicken wet? Because Nashville Hot Chicken isn't wet (like dipped buffalo wings) and the taste certainly doesn't resemble buffalo style sauce.
Hot Chicken
Wet, dipped chicken I was comparing it to

No, this is something entirely different. Fried chicken with the crust, then dunked into a very thin spicy honey sauce.

Gumbo dipped fried chicken.
I feel it needs a tomato to be official

I'd like to try that once

What kind of chicken? Breast? Leg? Thigh? Wing?
Sounds real good. I've seen people drizzle honey over their hot chicken. I've yet to try it, but the sweet honey combining with the ridiculously spicy chicken sounds like it would definitely work and taste good.
I know it quite isn't the same, but do you find it to be better than Gus's fried chicken in Memphis?

Whatever pieces you want -- white, dark, whatever. Once it's fried they dunk it into the "sauce" made out of apple cider vinegar, honey, and hot sauce. Trust me, it's legit.
FWIW, Gus's is one of my Top 5 favorite places to eat, anywhere. That being said, this stuff is very, very good as well.

How's the crunch on later pieces that have been sitting in the sauce? I prefer more crispy fried bits and Id worry about some pieces getting soggy before eaten. I'd probably rather the sauce in a bowl on the side and dip each piece right before eating.

We had Uncle Lou's for Christmas lunch at my office this year. I love the chicken just as much as Gus's. They have a good bologna sandwich and pretty good burgers too

Did it come with Donkamole?

Not to hijack but we now have a Gus's in Knoxville and it's awful. Ate there Saturday night and will not go back because the chicken was so over cooked. We had been a few times before and it seemed to be inconsistent but I figured it was because they were slammed. And I also don't care for the way the food melts the styrofoam plates either.
