Inexpensive Burr Grinder
Posted by Tigertown in ATL on 6/8/20 at 8:45 am00
Anyone have any recommendations?
I'd really rather not spend $150. Or even $100.

How are you brewing? That's going to dictate a lot. Baratza makes good stuff and has returns often on their website for 20-25% less than normal retail.

I have an Oxo that was 150ish and I think is like 100 now.
No significant issues in probably 4 years of heavy use.

My wife bought a Krups Burr grinder for about $50 that she's used every day of the year that we're home for the last four years...it's never given her a bit of trouble. No idea if you can still find one as they seem to be out of stock online, but I don't think you have to spend $100 to get a decent grinder.

Thanks to all of you.
I use the Keurig (I know-heretic!) on a daily basis and french press on the weekends.
I use the reusable pods for the Keurig and the "spinning" grinder I have turns some of the beans to dust and leaves others in big chunks.
I don't travel the world looking for beans, hand grown by silent monks in the mountains of Sumatra, so I'm looking for perfection. Just a bit better than what I have.

If it is the same one as this, it's the one I have and I really like it. I got it for less than the price on the Oxo website on Amazon but I see it says "currently unavailable" on Amazon.

I have a cheap Cuisinart and it does fine imo.

my kids got me this one for Christmas, and i love it. no complaints at all other than the fine setting isn't quite fine enough for my preference when i run my espresso machine. but that's a personal thing.
it sure beats the hell out of my hand-held burr grinder.

I have the Baratza Encore they picked and am happy with it. I bought it because I read that the build quality is really good and the repairability is very high since they sell the parts on their website with tutorials on how to fix various issues.

This is what I have used for years and seems to be the first burr grinder that everyone buys. I know a lot of people that use it. It's pretty good.
I have contemplated buying something better at some point.

We've been using the Baratza Encore for about two years now as well. Idiot proof, reliable. Not too bad to clean. Partner uses it with her Aeropress and she's satisfied with her daily cup.

Oxo burr grinder for $100 or Porto hand grinder for about $60

You can upgrade the burrs on the encore to the one's that the Virtuoso+ uses if you don't want to splurge on a whole new machine. That was another reason I went with it.

I have this one LINK
and other than being a PITA to clean, it does the job
I have the same (Capresso for those not clicking the link). I don't have any issues with cleaning it though. Mine is running on 5 years now with no issues.

Another for the Capresso. Over 3 years with alot of use and going strong. Easy to clean too

I've been using an older Capresso (555) for years. Still works great!

I don't like that you can't take the bottom piece out
coffee goes rancid so quickly, I want that thing spotless when I'm done with it
