Imo’s pizza is goat
No one talks about St Louis style pizza
The dough is unleavened and makes its very thin, cracker crust
Cheese is different too, provel

Friend,
Thank you for the recommendation. I have never eaten pizza in St Louis. Perhaps we should plan a trip together there. There are several restaurants on La Montagna I’ve wanted to try there. To be Frank, I will likely be critical of it if it looks like the cracker crust below. Sure, a thin cracker crust from Domino’s is fine because it is cheap. But that tavern style, like they serve and Vito & Nick’s is not trip worthy to me. There is little skill involved with that style. But you prove me wrong and I will be the first to acknowledge it.
Are there any NY or New Haven style pizzas you recommend in St Louis?
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Sometimes you have to reach beyond the norms and try something new, despite it being odd or not within the framework of standards.
I’d be happy to have a slice with you but you need to be open to different types.
Another one is Detroit style which is also quite delish.

Friend,
Detroit was home to one of my first pizza trips back in 2011. Of styles, I would rank Detroit behind only NY/NJ, New Haven, and Neapolitan. I’m not opposed to St Louis style, but there is yet to be a tavern style cracker crust pizza that has wowed me. Rarely bad, but never great in my experience thus far.

Ok then we will see.
I will say, Pizza Delicious, Zee and Nola Pizza are tops locally.

Friend,
Just between the two of us, I have been working on a Top 10 pizzas of New Orleans updated list for the last three months. I have been to 27/68 pizzerias thus far, and the leader right now, believe it or not, is Tower of Pizza. The more pizzas in New Orleans I try the more strongly my belief that New Orleans is the most anti pizza city of any American city with a large Italian population. Also, I have been able to find pizza documentation in the city dating back to the 1920s, two decades earlier than previously documented in essays.

Crust to me is the top part of the pizza puzzle. Too many places are lazy about this aspect. The ones I mentioned are focused on that.
I will revisit tower before commenting.

Looks like a doctored up Totino's pizza, which isn’t a bad thing. The thinner the crust the better.

I, too, am a fan of Tower of Pizza. Had a spicy San Marzano pizza at Paladar 511 that was very good, as well.

I don’t get Provel. IMO’s is better with Mozzarella.

My wife typically hates real thin crust. I'm good with it, because I feel like too much dough then cancels out good toppings.
The one thin crust she does like, in fact loves and craves when we visit Lafayette, is the Landry Special at Pizza Village, pepperoni, ground meat, onions, those little small arse "gumbo shrimp" and finely diced jalapenos.

I worked in St. Louis for a year out of college… I did not care for Imo's at all… I thought the cheese tasted funny.

Yeah it's a love / hate thing with provel.

I can get into a thin pizza crust like that.
I like many versions of pizza and open to try them all.

Detroit is 100X better than St Louis style which is consistently voted the worst of the regional styles of pizza.

I live 2 miles from an Imos. I really don't care for it. It's not terrible, just kinda blah.

Dayton, Ohio does tavern style. I grew up loving it. Even Doucher Portnoy seemed to enjoy.
Marion’s is the standard. Good pizza. I mostly remember all the adults getting shitefaced sitting around those long, Beowulf style tables.
My wife from New Orleans loves the tavern style, but I understand it’s an acquired taste.

I like thin crust and when we were in St Louis last year for a week, I tried IMO’s twice. The first one was pretty bad and it was cold. I went back later and we ate it right after we picked it up. Still bad but it was the cheese they used. It was terrible.

I love thin and crispy. That crust looks great.
