I have had great meals there and other times it was just ok. I definitely consider it a special occasion place.

All of my meals there have been delicious. I see no reason not to go unless you would like to try a different restaurant for variation.

I prefer Brennan's for the money. The ambiance is nicer and the menu is better.

Their martinis are terrible tho.

Made with Skol vodka as well

Now that I’m older a few more bucks in my pockets I opt out of the $.25 martinis and usually get wine or old fashioned during booze lunch.

My top three restaurants are Commanders, Clancy’s and Vincent’s.

They don’t mean shite here. People downvote me just because I’m fat and probably smell like sausage.

Upvotes are where it’s at.

All in all Commanders is hands down the best restaurant in the city. A meal done right at Commanders rivals anything you can throw out there.

From a food perspective, it’s not up to the standard of what Coquette puts out on a daily basis. Honestly Commanders is too big to put out food on par with Coquette and others. When you are covering that many tabletops, there are trade-offs with what you can do with your menu and the attention you can give each dish.

The difference in quality of when I’ve gone with 2-4 people is drastic when I’ve gone with a large party.

But I’m still a fan of Commanders as one of the best old guard high end places in New Orleans.

If someone were coming in from out of town and wanted to experience the best old school New Orleans restaurant atmosphere. Where would most of the locals send them? Commander's? Galatoire's? Antoine's?

Clancy's, Mr. John's

Not old school, but the best atmosphere is revolution

Is there somewhere else you would say to go for the old school New Orleans experience/atmosphere, or would Commander's be it? FYI, I know there are other places where I like the food better. I was just curious as an outsider where you would tell someone to go not necessarily for the food but that atmosphere
