My dad would mix crunchy peanut butter and Steens and scoop it up with white bread. I could tell it was something from his ‘poor’ upbringing. I put poor in quotes because he never knew he was.

My wife and kids love it. They put it on biscuits in the morning.
I use it when I smoke ribs and pork shoulder before hitting them with rub. Very nice bark and just sweet enough.

Love Steens being from Vermilion Parish. I can finally get it regularly not that Rouses is in Gulf Shores.

I have never tried it. A chef or two may have snuck some into a dessert over the years, but I was never aware of it.

Used in place of Karo it makes a damn fine pecan pie.

Also use it to sweeten most tradional southern deserts and sweets as cane syrup is the OG southern sweetener, the slight tinge of molasses is a nice touch.

“Pour it on deliciously,
Start your day nutritiously,
Steens’ Cane Syrup
In the yellow can!”

That jingle is still in my head...

Cane syrup is everywhere in South La. steens brand May be local to Abbeville, but anyone who grew up near a mill had syrup, molasses and la quit in their house.

Just made some biscuits and sopped them up with some Steens. It’s legit stuff. Living in LC, it can be hard to find at times. They were out for several weeks during this pandemic but it’s usually stocked on some bottom shelf of Rouses or LC.

Funny enough they don’t stock Steens in the “buy local” category of Rouses. It’s over there with the syrup. People might buy more of it if it was stocked front and center with other LA home products.

Wife had never heard of it and dislikes it. Apparently many people in Lake Charles haven’t.
Your wife aside, everyone I know in Lake Charles has had steen’s. Many like it, some don’t. I’ve seen it in many stores in Lake Charles and the outlying areas.

Steens is one of the few things I refuse to eat. That, Kelly beans and licorice.

It's the only syrup to me, I heat it up in microwave. I like the only one ingredient.

Yes...some folks use mustard. I like the steens for pork. It’s doesn’t take much. I drizzle it on and then put the rub.
