I'm watching Barefoot in the Park right now. What are the odds?

I like not realizing it's an old thread, doing my usual auto downvote for Paul Allen, and seeing where I already did 5 years ago. Feels goodman

Not a huge Barefoot fan, though I will drink it. A little more expensive, but all of the Dark Horse wines are good for the $. If you're feeling fancy, Josh Cellars has some really good $12 wines. If I'm paying more than that, I'm usually just cruising the Costco aisle and buy a $30 bottle that has been marked down to $15, but I haven't found any i really like better than the josh cellars stuff.

I have had some nice wines at some wineries and at business dinners that were fantastic, but I'm too damn cheap to spend $75-$150 on a bottle of wine unless it is for a special occasion, and since my wife doesn't drink wine, special marriage occasions aren't wine occasions.

We typically drink fairly cheap wine other than special occasions or good meals. This one has been a staple in our house for quite a while.

Almost every restaurant in southern Europe has cheap “house wine” on the menu. Don’t let anyone try to convince you that you have bad taste. I’m not knighting for barefoot whatsoever, but someone had to be a cost leader and they have positioned themselves accordingly.

Pretending stuff is bad because it’s cheap is stupid. You either like the product or you don’t, and accept that some versions of the product are a better value than others.

Pizza is the ultimate example of this. If you love pizza, you will stand in line for 90 minutes at most famous big city places, and you will also eat Totinos on less flattering occasions. They aren’t all the same, but if you know what you bargained for going into it, how bad is it, really?

ETA: If you asked me even 4-5 years ago, I would have never thought it would be true (and likely would have become angry if suggested) I posted about table wines that I don’t even drink and totinos pizza that I don’t even eat (in probably 20 years) less than an hour before an LSU game.

I am an OT Baller and one of life's guilty pleasures is drinking box wine out of a red Solo cup. Yes, I am trashy.

Totinos is pretty freaking bad. Like cheap wine, I eat frozen pizza occasionally, but not that shite.

As with any wine, if you like it and can afford it, Cheers!

Wait till you try the water out of your toilet. I’m sure you’ll give it 5 stars.

Man... we went through a Black Box wine phase for years when us and all our friends had young kids 15 years ago. Except we'd make "wine spritzers" with sprite/ginger ale/ etc with the wine.. and a couple of mint leaves to keep it fancy.

I don't drink all that much wine these days (occasional big cabs, oranges or naturals), but I was favorably impressed by this Aldi pinot noir, which my father in law served us:
LINK

It's like $5, and it's pretty danged drinkable.

My BIL has been in the wine biz for 25 years as an executive. He tells me stories and shows me videos all the time of their focus groups where wine snobs pick the cheapest or next to cheapest wine saying it’s their favorite and all guessing a vintage.

All of it is a popularity contest and 95% of people don’t know shite and can’t tell the difference

Was this dinner served on skid row?

Well, as I mentioned in the OP I tried the Pinot 10 months after the cheese board dinner. But other than that your post is 100% correct. It WAS served on skid row, and 3 out of 4 bums present said it was the best wine they'd ever had

Bogle is the GOAT cheap wine. Essential Red, Cab, Petit Sirah cannot be beat.

You can get 12 bottles of Bogle Cabernet delivered to your doorstep from Total Wine (in BR at least) for $116 including the delivery fee, sales tax, and a good tip.

Less than any regular grocery store sells it for in person.

Did you pop a pepperoni down your gullet before the first sip of Pinowah?

Is he? I seriously thought he was like 70 and homebound.

When I scroll through a recommendation thread and see some post making a recommendation that was probably a general public/conventional wisdom choice from 15 years ago, I immediately know it's Paul Allen.
