I think the poke craze is about to die down in Baton Rouge It too expensive for deconstructed sushi.

Don't really agree with this. I can get a big bowl for 14.99 and with rice and am generally content. If I'm getting sushi there's no way I'm spending less than $25 on myself on takeout.

I'm also talking about a place here on the Northshore, never tried the BR places.

Large bowl at Poke Loa in the CBD with tax and a dollar tip is $16. Portions are good but pricey.

I guess it just depends on the sushi and the poke bowl. I tend to just get classic sushi rolls (tuna/salmon with cucumber/avocado, spicy tuna, crunchy.. that kind of thing) which are like $6 everywhere.

I’ve always been still hungry when I get Southfin, but I think it’s because I love sushi rice and I’m not particularly fond of the rice Southfin serves so I’m not eating the filling component.

Also, many sushi joints do lunch specials that are $10ish dollars for definitely more food than a poke bowl.

The 13.95 bowl at southfin definitely fills me more than spending the same amount at a decent sushi joint. Not sure what y'all are getting there.

Do the poke places in baton rouge at least mix them together before hand? Or are they like here where everything gets thrown in the bowl right before they hand it to you.

In Hawaii the fish marinates for at least an hour before they top it on rice. You rarely pick any ingredients it's pre made. 1000 times more flavorful then what all these places serve

I don’t get how such a substantial sum of money and time can be invested on something that is clearly fading

The one on Perkins is never crowded anymore

I've only had Southfin once, but I've only had good experiences with Poke Geaux in Lafayette. I find it to be less expensive and more filling than when I get sushi, and it scratches a similar itch.

Poke Geaux is legit. Good portions and not ridiculously expensive.

Poke Loa is legit. Used to eat at the original on Magazine all the time.

They do the rice the right way (sticky), get fresh fish in twice a day, and have reasonable pricing.

Went to Southfin one time. I hated the rice and was shocked at the price considering my experiences at poke loa. Havent been back to southfin.

Agree on Poke' Loa uptown.

I heard the poke' place at White Star is excellent, need to get over there.

Southfin isn't what I could call traditional poke'. I haven't been back in quite some time though.

They mix it directly beforehand.

Right, it's typically 5-10 different varieties of sauces pre-mixed with tuna. Then you can get furikake, sesame seeds, etc... on top. And yes, it is better.

And I spent $32 on two bowls and two drinks. And was hungry about two hours later.

This is why I didn't think these places would make it after the bandwagons left.
