I think the poke craze is about to die down in Baton Rouge

I enjoy Southfin for a quick, healthy lunch; but it seems like poke was hot a year or so ago and now no one really cares.

I saw there is a spot on Bluebonnet, and also they are building one on Siegen. Count the place near campus and a town like Baton Rouge has around 6 locations where one can get poke.

My wife wanted Southfin on Saturday, so we went to the one near Whole Foods. Arrived at 12:00 PM and were the only people in the restaurant for almost 40 minutes.

And I spent $32 on two bowls and two drinks. And was hungry about two hours later.

I might be wrong, but unless they are killing it at lunch during the week, I can't see Southfin making it for the long run. Or any of the others.

After getting pretty sick after eating poke here in BR, i refuse to go near it again. Something about raw fish being handled by college kids, doesn't breed proper sanitation. At least with Sushi, there is the illusion of some semblance of skill/knowledge in handling raw fish.

I'm a pretty stout baw, but I'm trying to tone my curves down. Got the crawfish poke on a bed of mixed greens. Checked out Southfin's nutritional guide and saw a poke bowl with mixed greens is like 250 calories. That just got the engine warmed up.

Also, the crawfish were beautiful but completely bland except for the crab boil they'd been soaked in. So they were bland and hot as hell. My wife's lua bowl was very good.

I agree. The prices are too high and the portions too small to stick around.

I'm not even fat and I'm starving soon after eating that shite. Although it is good.

The wife and I get 2 bowls for $24 at 2 different places by the house. $36 is insane.

$32 sorry, but still.

And the dude behind the counter gave me a look when I clicked the "no tip" button on the iPad. A tip for what? He didn't even make the food. He just took my credit card.

The places we go usually only have 1 person behind the counter who makes the bowl and then rings you up so I tip them.

Yea the place he is talking about isn't that cheap.

I'd rather just go a few blocks down the street and get a big vermicelli bowl for less money

That one (Poke City) is awful. It's by the house, but I won't go back.

I like Southfin a lot. The difference between it and Poke City is astounding.

Id rather spend $15-20 on poke for lunch rather than $40 or more on sushi for lunch.

I tried yuzu this weekend and i found it to be much better than southfin.

I ate at Poke Loa last week for lunch and had a $12 bowl...ate too much and tossed the rest...left thinking that I would have been happier with a $8, smaller portion. Dunno why those places don't offer a "half size" option.

I agree - too expensive for what you get. Tastes good, but doesn’t fill me up.

I like southfin, but I think the bowl I get, add avacado, plus a drink is close to 20 bucks.

I’ll have to try the Yuzu place

I went there recently for the first time and it was an awful experience. I thought the food was pretty good, but maaaan was the training awful. They took forever and we had to repeat so many things multiple times

I enjoyed Yuzu significantly more than Southfin. Best of the BR places I've tried so far.
